March 6
It rained all morning so I just hung out and relaxed at the villa, took a nap, ate breakfast. The rain cleared up so I ventured out around 11. Go out to my jeep to find it’s filled with 3” of water on the floorboards.
This is what happens, I guess, when they give me the soft top with no sides. I assume Budget knows that rain + no sides = wet jeep. So, I spent the next half hour soaking up the water. Lovely.
Off to the Deli Grotto for a greek, plus turkey on wheat sandwich. Can’t resist these little guys either.

Head up the north shore to check out the wave action. Here’s Caneel’s construction progress.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334486887/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3378/333 ... 7324_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
Stop at Hawksnest, as it is completely empty for obvious reasons. Wow. The waves are loud and crashing. In the pic it looks small, but in person it just seems larger than life!

And the sea was angry that day, my friend.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3335337762/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3414/333 ... acec_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
Trunk.

Maho is calm as usual, but looks stirred up.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334516955/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3304/333 ... d6c3_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
So today is definitely a south shore day. I stop at the Coral Bay overlook and just start taking pictures. I did notice there was a couple there that posed for a picture but thought they were done so I’m taking pictures….and start hearing “well maybe we’ll just have three in there. Laugh, laugh, chuckle, chuckle.” Huh?? What are these people talking abo— as am I’m turning around, a rip roar of laughter of like 10 people is directed at me.
Oh dear. I guess I’m lost in my own world again. Can you say (insert smurfs theme) La, La, La, La…
Off to Salt Pond. At least 30 cars here today. The hike was nice and breezy there and back. The sun managed to come out for a bit.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3335372358/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3595/333 ... 7c68_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334538447/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3320/333 ... 7dec_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
There was a cute little 2 yr old boy on the beach that just did not want to leave the pretty water. His parents were done and ready to go, but he would just cry out “BUT I WANT TO DIVE, I WANT TO DIVE!!” We can all understand his plea, can’t we? The obsession does start early, doesn’t it.
Little Lamesure is just lovely today. Absolutely fabulous. The sun is now out. Can you think of anything better??
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334542391/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3623/333 ... 642b_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
This beach is so peaceful and quiet, it reminds me of Scott beach at Caneel.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3335379142/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3414/333 ... 9e47_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
There were probably 15 or so jeeps there. People were pretty spread out, and it seems there’s just this understood thing that this is a “quiet beach”.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334545085/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3640/333 ... 7cc9_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3334548473/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3311/333 ... 2057_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
Oh well, it’s 4 o’clock and it’s getting quitting time at the office, so I head out. The road was a doosy, little muddy, I’d say.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3335400180/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3401/333 ... 6f8d_o.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
As I drive back through the coral bay intersection, I noticed lots of people waiting for the bus. So, you know me, “who wants a ride?!!! I have room for three!!!.” So I pick up a lovely couple from Chicago, and another lady they befriended at Skinny’s from Spain. We talk and laugh all the way back to Cruz Bay.
Went home quickly to change for dinner. Went to La Plancha. I had the seared scallops (good) and the key lime crème brulee for dessert. Eh, on the crème brulee. They key lime was just a bit confusing to me. I guess, why mess with a perfect crème brulee? The bar was really neat. It has shells that are lit up.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/35307278@N06/3335422026/" title="photo.jpg by sugarbird00, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3620/333 ... 838a_o.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="photo.jpg"></a>
So here’s where the night gets interesting. They don’t take credit cards and I had limited cash. I give them what I had and said I’ll be back since I’m just up the hill. He says don’t worry about it, bring it another day. So, I go back, get another $30 and go back to La Plancha. So, because I can’t do math quickly, I was already walking out, when I realized I gave him over 35% tip.
Lovely. That’s what happens, I guess, with a liberal arts degree.
Hmm.
So, I go off to La Tapa to have a glass of wine, because, I just really like the atmosphere in that place and it’s only 8 o’clock. I mean, I have at least another hour until my bedtime.
Anyway, as I’m driving home, I noticed my driver’s license is missing and 10 bucks.
Ugghh. Go back to town and retrace my steps. Still no luck. And that’s basically how the night ended. Such a GREAT day, to end on a bad note. So, we’ll see if I find it. Probably not. Will have to apply for new one when I get home.
