A different car rental/taxi question

We are a group of 9 (6 adults - 3 kids) traveling to St. John in April. We originally planned to spend our first night on St. Thomas. We have one small child and thought his my be the easiest. Last week I noticed our villa is not rented the week prior to our arrival. I emailed the villa owner and asked if she would rent it to us for an additional night and we would head over to STJ on the day of our arrival. Not only would she rent it to us, she gave us a 30% discount. Way too good to pass up even with a crabby kid.

Here is our dilema. We have 2 large vehicles rented for our original travel dates. Our villa is near Cruz Views. We have been told it is within walking distance to town but the walk back up is a killer. So, do ask to have our rental cars changed to add the additional day to a tune of $175 or do we take a cab to the villa and pick the cars up in the morning as we originally planned. Part of me wants to pick them up on the first day, and get our grocery shopping out of the way. But part of me says we are going to be exhausted as our flight departs Minneapolis at 515a resulting in a long travel day.

Does anyone know what the cost of a taxi would be from the ferry dock to approx Cruz Views?

I would rent the cars for the extra day and hit starfish market. if you take a safari up to the area where you're staying, it's about $4-5 a person plus bagage. then you're stuck there with a hungry crabby kid. :( while the walk dowm from there is't too bad, the walk up is something i would prefer not to do. Two other options:
1) Pile everyone into a taxi and ask the taxi driver to make a brief stop at the market on the way to your villa for some basic supplies. Pick two people and send them in with a list to keep it quick.
2) Rent one car the first day. Pile as much luggage as you can in there and send everyone up to the villa in a taxi. The someone can go back out to get what's needed and you will have a car to go pick up the other car in the morning.
