The airport liquor store is advertising today in the Island Trader ----- "coming soon" -------- a new store inside the departure lounge - 'carry on board' -'no liquid ban' - no check in - no fees - they claim they are opening soon and you will able to buy inside, beyond TSA and Customs - like duty free stores elsewhere. Owned by Caribbean Host 340-693-4519 this would be useful for carrying bottles home.

That would be terrific! One less thing to drag through security.

I will say that I hope it will have a better selection than the one in the arrival area. We went in there on our way home and could not find enough stuff we wanted to fill our duty free allotment--not even close. It was odd because we never had that problem before. Maybe we just hit them on a bad day.

We bought 6 from the existing store in the airport last May and American broke two of them.

NEVER AGAIN!

This sounds great! And, if we can carry it on, that's even better because I really worry about my bottles going through the luggage process. Not so much that I forgo saving 1/2 price on the bottle, but I do worry that my $5 bottles of rum will be broken when I get home!

   Oh joy - it's going to be like the old days - folks with a roll-a-board, a "personal" bag as big as Kansas and now a carton of liquor to schlep down the aisles and try to find room in the overheads. Can't wait - especially since folks are already bringing bigger and bigger carry-ons to try to beat the checked luggage fees. I always seem to be sitting below the person who has trouble getting all their carry-ons to fit in the overhead and loses control of the heaviest piece. My last MRI I had to explain to the neuro how I came by that permanent dent in my head - Knock wood, we've never lost a bottle when checking the boxes through - good place for tees and board shorts - cushioning the bottles.

I got my 6 bottles and checked them - they never showed up in Boston - I figure the party was on me that night - I hope they enjoyed it - samoka

I didn't even bother buying liquor this past trip as the price to check the box would eat up any savings of the duty free. Normally, I'd do it anyway as its simply fun to bring back booze from the Islands (it tastes better for some reason :) but considering we were navigating a stroller and the accompaniments of a two year old - not to mention said two year old - I passed.

I did the math. Six bottles, at a 50 percent savings were still cheaper to check for $15 than to not purchase.

When you drink as much as I do, every little bit counts.

American does not charge to check the USVI liquor boxes - I thought that the other airlines went the same route after considering the devastating effect on the USVI for charging for the boxes. No?

We just returned last Saturday from STT and flew on U.S. Air and they did not charge for the two boxes of liquor that we checked and we had a suitcase checked also. The liquor came through perfectly!!! FYI: When we bought the liquor, the guy at the store told us that the airlines were not charging to check liquor as a whole because it would hurt the island's liquor sales. I guess time will tell if they hold up to that.

They made me pay $15 in November, but maybe things are changing. It was still cheaper to go that route.

Spirit is the only airline to make you pay for liquor boxes.

I noticed yesterday, that Cardow now has a jewelry store inside the terminal just past security.

I guess the airport decided they need to make more money and beginning to rent more space inside terminal. Smart move.
