I just noticed my ticker is under a year.

I guess that means I need to crack down on teaching my fat hind-end to run up a mountain. Yay!

Hey Lulu - Looks we are going about the same time - it seems silly to be excited about a trip that far away but its what I have- samoka

How is that going Lulu. I am so demotivated this year. I am thinking the only thing that might get me going/exercising this year is 8 tuff miles. I would love to hear more about your training/inspiration. Anything.

it sounds extravagant, but I actually hired a personal trainer. I was never much of a work out person, in fact hated the gym, but spending money on this seems like one of the most important things I can do for myself. If you share the trainer with a friend or couple people, it's really quite affordable compared with going to the gym.

After a few months, you get into a routine and you don't need the trainer as much....even once a week can be motivating if you can swing it.

I lost 40 pounds that way and now I've been a regular workout junkie for 2 years now. I don't feel right if I go more than a day or two without at least a good walk and a stretch.

anyway, one person's experience!

Yeah, right now I have my trainer and that is going well. We work out two days a week, but once my insurance stops paying for her in May (my doctor prescribed it for six months), then I will probably scale back to once a week. I know what to do; it's just nice to have someone beat it into me.

I need to get back to walking and running more. I'm doing weights and all this other stuff, but I need to get back to the actual walking or 8 Tuff Miles is going to be 8 impossible miles.

I am pretty excited about my trip even if I end up getting on the $1 bus at the top of Bordeaux Mountain!

that's great you were able to get a prescription. I'll ask my doctor next time, it would be great to have health insurance pay for some of it!!

My trainer says the weights are even more important in the beginning--for whatever that's worth. That said, I have a flat foot problem that is causing some knee issues that have to be corrected before I can start running--so maybe he's just pushing that for me.

Good luck! It's really worth it! Do you have iPod or some way to listen to music or podcasts? I have learned I can manage my breathing better when listening to something relaxing like Bob Marley, believe it or not!

My doctor wrote a letter with big, scary words in it, and that seemed to do the trick. I have a lot of weight-related health problems, and this seems to be helping. However, I haven't really lost any weight, although I have shed several inches and have a significant decrease in back fat!

I do have an ipod. I need to make more workout mixes, but I generally do much better, especially when I'm running or walking if I have some sort of music to motivate me.

We'll see. In some ways I feel better and I might even look a little better, but I still feel like a giant, fat blob. I am not sure if I can do the race or not, but I'm going to try.
