Warning - if you are on St John Feb 28th

Hi everyone

This maybe alittle late, but, if you are on STJ Saturday Feb 28th and are staying in the Coral Bay area, remember if you are leaving that day to allow extra drive time to Cruz Bay as it is the "8 Tuff Miles" run/walk, Cruz Bay to Coral Bay via Centerline Road, and the traffic does get stopped by the police to allow the runners to pass - up to 800 of them

Last year I saw many, many frustrated tourists all trying to get to Cruz Bay to catch the ferry to STT and I knew they would miss it.

Just something to keep in mind.

What time period is Centerline blocked off on the 28th? Thankfully we're staying out by Francis Bay so we can take the Northshore Road into town if necessary.

Northshore will be your best option - actually your only option depending on your departure time..

The start time is at 7:15am but keep in mind "island time" (one year it was over an hour late starting) - they actually make you drive Northshore Road from the Smoothie stand on meaning you can't drive from the smoothie stand to Cruz Bay during "peak" running time, but keep in mind, if you are driving the stretch of Centerline from Coral Bay to where the smoothie stand is located and the bulk of runners are heading your way you are made to stop and wait until they feel you can move on without impacting the race.

Is Cruz Bay pretty dead during the race or doesn't it make much of an impact? I'm just wondering if that's a good time to go into town.

Hey Pia,

Help me with my plans. Want to deposit the women folk that are running in the race around 6:30 and high tail it for Cruz Bay to wait for them. Can I get this done early in the AM before it starts?

Cya soon,

Hey Benchill

Do you mean hightail it to Coral Bay not Cruz Bay to wait for them (I assume you do) - no problem doing that - I'll be dropping hubby off as well as he is walking it - so I'll drop him off by 7am and then take Northshore back to Coral Bay and walk to the ballfield at about 7:45 if they start on time - hubby will call me when the race starts that way I can see Jeremy arrive 1st :) (hope I didn't just jinx him  )

As far as Cruz Bay is concerned it will not effect it at all as far as shopping goes - stores don't open until 10am and the race starts at 7:15am give or take an hour :)

Hey Pia,

Yea, guess I shouldn't make them run backwards. Ha!

I woudlnt mind going back by Catherineberg on way to Coral Bay, you think I could go down Centerline to C'berg before the race?

Please look for us, as we will you....if you remember what we look like!

Thx

I think you could but you would need to drop them off early (not sure how they will thank you for that) as I would think you would need to have left Catherinberg well before the race starts to be safe.

Hubbies number is 178 - I'll be at the finish line to watch for the race winners - I usually stand by the bus stop and then run up the back ballfield hill to the finish line - let's hope for better weather than last year - it poured of rain :(
