I just read on Frank Barnako's site that the landlord at Mongoose Junction cut tenants rents by 15% and is giving them september rent free--that is indeed a very decent thing for him to do. So hats off to Mr Speer.

Glen Speer is a fantastic individual. I have talked with him a few times about his design and build of the Junction. Some of the best stone and cement work I have seen anywhere. We tried to get him as an architect about 6 years ago for a small stone cottage my wife and I hope to build on STJ in the not to distant future, but he was to busy with other projects. We had someone else draw up the plans and he was kind enough to review our plans while we were on island and with our architects back in Birmingham, AL on a conf call (no charge).
Please support Mongoose shops when you can.

Amazing real estate item
Let's not kid ourselves. The economy sucks. Here and there.
In recognition of the tough times, and a slower winter season than usual, one island landlord has reportedly acted like a White Knight. Several business people tell the Inquiring Iguana that Mongoose Junction’s owner, Glen Speer, has offered more than sympathy to merchants looking at the daily receipts.
Speer has cut their rents 15% and gave tenants free occupancy in September. In real estate, in retail ... this is unheard of.
Speer has been on St. John for decades. He’s been a successful business man, a real estate developer, and architect. And now he’s shown himself to be truly understanding. Lots of other business owners are wishing their landlords would take their cue from Speer.

That is wonderful
I hope that the landlord of the other side of Mongoose (there is Mongoose #1 and Mongoose #2) follows suit.

I thought Glen was landlord of all of Mongoose.
I know he was our landlord when I worked with Body Deli.
When did that change?

Pia is correct, Mongoose 1 and Mongoose 2 have been different for quite a long time, if my memory serves me correctly.

Pia,
Where is the divide between the two? What Mr. Speer is doing is wonderful and makes a great deal of sense. As someone suggested on Frank Barnako's site, having less rental income certainly beats having shops shut down and boarded up.
