Hi mahojim. My hubs is reading it now and as soon as he's finished, I'm sending it on to you. If we wait much longer, I may just deliver it to you on STJ. :D Just kidding....book soon come.

Pjayer-
When are you two going down again? My sweet Amy & I are trying to fashion a two week trip this fall, around Halloween.
We're hoping to stay at one of the camps at Maho for a week, then a villa (hopefully Sago Palms)for our 2nd week.
We'll experience Maho Campgrounds for a week together, , then meet up with our best friends for the 2nd week at the villa.
About the book- I've got to be honest; A friend of Amys' has "borrowed", both "Feet, Fins...", as well as "St.John, Off the...".
And the 'Frommers', and a lot of other books are just so outdated.
I'd like to read something 'new', ya' know?. I'm sure it'll be the same story anyway , but I haven't read that version yet.
Sometimes I hurt inside, ok?

( I hope this doesn't classify me as a "Book-Rager", because I'm far too busy sleeping through my afternoon nap to be angry.)
Thanks again-
MJ
P.S.-
Not sure if you have already read either book yet, but I'll gladly send them to you.
Let me know-

majojim, we're trying for April, but no definite plans. One minor problem is our minor daughter, i.e., who will stay with her. "Keep Left" is not like FF&4WD or Off the Beaten Path. We have both of those and they travel with us to STJ. FF&4WD is our bible. Keep Left us more of a novel based loosely on the author's experience building a villa on STJ. It is funny in an odd sort of way and is an easy read. Hubby has 4 pages left and then it's in the mail to you.

Two whole weeks on STJ and during Halloween! You'll have a blast. I'm jealous. :D 8)

Looked at the website and I cannot picture exactly where this is...

As you know, we are very familiar with the Fish Bay area. The only thing I'd be concerned about here is the lack of breezes. Is it in the gut?

Looks nice though and the price seems very reasonable!

I can't picture where it is either. I spent probably 3 hours at work today looking for villas. (Hope no one at work reads this.) Anyway, I made a nice list with links, but forgot to email it to my home address. Which means, of course, I'll need to spend at least two hours tomorrow at work reviewing it. Someone who has stayed at Valley View sent me a very favorable email last night, so it's still on our short list. I'm still open for suggestions. At this pace, I'll probably be calling rental agencies about last minute discounts. We're not good at planning ahead.

Which villa are you two looking for? :?
pjayer- Did you book a jeep rental yet?
Thanks for the info on the book, I'm looking forward to it.

Is the pool at Valley View private, or is it shared with the on-site owners?

I have been there, many years ago.
This is what I remember, it may not be very accurate since it has been years.

It is up a hill from the Fish Bay Road, not really much of a view from what I can remember. I am trying to remember exactly where, but I just can put my finger on what road it is on. I would probably now it if I saw it.
If the same people own it, they are great and I can not see you having any privaacy issues. It was cute, nothing fancy but clean and the pool was a nice bonus.

Jimmy, we don't have anything at this point. No car, airline ticket, villa...nut'n. I'm just hoping when (if) things fall into place, there will be vehicles available. Otherwise, it might require a trip on the car barge.

CAG, the pool is shared by the owners. But we're beach people, so that's not a big drawback for us.

XIG, the manager I've been talking with says she and her husband built the villa. The current owners, whose name I don't know, bought it from them several years ago. I'm not sure exactly where it is either.

This past fall we rented from Dependable, on STT. It was great.
Did some shopping on the way to the car ferry at Red Hook, and enjoyed a chilly beer on the upper deck of the ferry on the way across the Sound.
It was a lot of fun. I'm not sure why everyone else stayed in their car on the way over, but we didn't.
At the far end of the parking lot of the car barge ferry landing at Enighed is Hercules Pate. It's a small trailer/eatery with a few picnic tables, and this is where I found my new island favorite snack; Johnny Cakes. I opted for the tuna fish, and it was gorgeous!
