Random NYC airport/hotel question

Short story: I've just had a trip to NYC dropped into my lap. Tickets were free and hotel room, should we want it, is also free. It's some tiny hotel in Rockefeller center-- fine by me.

Anyway, my question is, we have to fly into LGA and I'm 99.9% sure we'll be taking the free hotel, so how do we get from one to the other? My time in NYC consists of once when I was 10 for a hot minute and once after 9/11 on a volunteer trip, so I have basically no frame of reference.

Any transportation help/suggestions from airport to hotel would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hey LMG -

We were in NYC back in Oct/Nov. and found the transportation pretty easy. We went to the baggage claim area. We found that it was easy to find the taxi stand if you choose to go that route.

We ended up going with a guy in a limo. It was parked in the lot outside and we basically followed him there with two other women travellers. We asked what the fee was before we got in and confirmed that it was for the three people in our party, not individual

We ended up taking a taxi back to the airport on the way home and the rate was very similar - only the limo was much more comfortable!

Have fun!

Thanks, Tracy. I am sure we'll figure it out, I was just unsure of the logistics of La Guardia vs. JFK.

Thanks.:)

I think there is a flat rate for taxi from LGA to the city. It was $45 at one time but it may have gone up. There should be signs in the taxi about it or you could probably google up to date info.

I thought the flat rate only applied to JFK. I think a cab from LGA will be between $25-30 plus the triboro bridge toll.
oh. oops. could be.

I always do a taxi to and from the airport....but there are also shuttles available but then you stop at everyone's hotel and it takes longer........I believe there's an info booth and they can help with price comparison.

Enjoy!

No flat taxi fare to/from LGA.

We live in NYC and always take a taxi to and from LGA. It's usually around $20-30 (depending on the destination & the traffic) + toll (if any) + tip to Manhattan. Since you are staying in midtown, you'll be most likely taking either the 59th St. Bridge/Queensboro Bridge (no toll) or the Midtown Tunnel ($5 toll, I believe).

If you choose to hire a private car service, it would cost you around $35 (one-way) at least, plus toll and tip.

Hope you'll have fun in NYC!

MaryBeth,
I use all three airports, LGA, JFK & EWR, so I get confused with the fares too sometimes, and so does my husband. Well, being confused with the fares is one thing, but with the destination is another. One time on the way to EWR, my husband told a cab driver "We're going to LGA" and the driver started driving – a good thing we realized it before a potential disaster.

Thanks MaryBeth, SJ, Pickle... all. I'm more reassured now.

MaryBeth, no worries. You had the advantage of me not knowing the difference. :)

LMG, do be careful of random car services--there are some real fly by night operations and some unscrupulous operators- really, stick to the yellow cabs!

When you exit the terminal there will be a taxi line. Can't miss it. What time do you land? I'd tell the driver to take the 59th Street Bridge
