Day 3.....breakfast at the 'villa'....met up with our new friends from Iowa at 10:30am downtown. They took us to the place they are staying at and they really lucked out. It's an older home but it has fabulous views from every room in the house. Two bedrooms on either end with a living room/kitchen in the center. The porch wraps all around the front. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand from the beach and the master bathroom is like being in a rain forest. The front part of the bathroom has the sink/toilet, etc and then you step across these terra cotta stepping stones surrounded by foliage into a shower area that looks out to St. Thomas. There is a tiny splash pool and at least two tables with huge umbrellas . They took us around to show us where some of the other houses they looked at before they found this one - most of them out by Contant Point/Chocolate Hole area. We took a ride out to Skinny's for lunch and some shopping and then out to Sloop Jones studio. They dropped us off in town. We had dinner at La Tapa which was outstanding!
Day 4....we broke down and rented a jeep wrangler. Packed up a lunch and headed out to Maho Bay. O yes, now this is what I'm talking about! Probably our favorite place on earth. Chilled out there for most of the day and headed back to town around 3pmish. Stopped at Mongoose Junction, had a cocktail at Gecko Gazebo, came home, showered and headed out again. Dinner reservations at Wharfside Bistro at 7:30. Stopped at Morgan's Mango for a cocktail and a little something to nibble on. Dinner at Wharfside was I'm sad to say just 'okay'. We shared an app of veal sweetbreads which was good but nothing in comparison to the sweetbreads I had at La Tapa on Tuesday night. The special fish preparation was fresh wahoo pan seared served atop coconut jasmine rice with a vanilla cream sauce and sweet peas. It was good just did now have the 'wow' factor. Sounded better than it tasted.
Anyway, here we are back at the 'villa'.

What was the name of the villa your "new friends" rented? Sounds like you had a great trip so far.

It was nice to meet you! I can't believe you celebrated your 40th the other night (we were at Zozos too--downstairs--and I had the same dish as you!). You guys don't look old enough to have been married for 40 years!!

Enjoy the rest of your trip! :D

Hi
Nice to meet you as well! And thank you for the anniversary wishes. I hope you had a great time on St. John. We are going to La Plancha (sp?) tonight. Looking forward to it.
If you ever get north to Maine, let me know and we'd love to get together and have drinks/dinner.
Safe travels home.

Sounds like you're having a blast. Maho is my most favorite place on earth, as well!
I particularly enjoy sitting on the beach to the left of the small building that was used for affairs at the near ( west) end of the bay. The sound of the gentle "surf" rustling back through the stones by your feet is the most soothing noise I've ever experienced.
Enjoy!
Don't forget to hit Uncle Joe's bbq for a delicious meal to bring back to the villa, to the beach, or even right there on the corner, as people walk by. YUMMY!
Smiles-
MJ
