Here's the recipe I use:

4 parts pineapple juice
1 part orange juice
1 part coconut cream (such as CoCo Lopez)
2 parts dark rum (Cruzan)

Shake with ice, garnish with grated nutmeg, and enjoy :)

Here's mine:
Mix 1.5 oz orange juice, 1 oz pineapple juice and 1 oz Coco Lopez in a cocktail shaker. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice. Top with 1.5 oz dark rum and a grating of fresh nutmeg. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Maybe I'll have one tonight!

The 4-1-1 works fine BUT never, never forget the freshly grated nutmeg AND shaken, not stirred (no blenders). Golden Rum (ex Pusser's) to taste and float some dark rum on top (ex Myer's)

In your Soggy Dollar plastic cup (or reasonable facsimile thereof) pour the rum over the ice, add the mix, float the dark and grate the nutmeg

As established in Painkiller lore, the fabulous libation was originated at The Soggy Dollar Bar, White Bay, JVD.

Since the proprietor(s) have never been willing to divulge the ingredients, there have been variations springing up here and there.

Pussers' is the 4-1-1.

I've never had a bad one and I'm looking forward to trying The Beach Bar's variation in April. Not too sure how they mix that Coco Lopez in without shaking it, but it is obviously choice.

Since I don't like dark rum, I make a variation. I go by the regular recipe and then instead of 2 oz. dark rum, I add 1 oz. coconut rum and 1 oz. mango rum. I suppose that really makes it a different drink, though.

Another version is called the Nilla Killa.
Same recipe just substitute vanilla rum for dark rum.
The wife had this last year at Soggy Dollar or it could have been Foxy's (It's still a blur) and seemed to enjoy it. I believe Foxy's web site has a recipe.

Okay - maybe a stupid question to all of you, but...

I can never get the Coco Lopez to completely dissolve in the drink. It stays "lumpy" and settles to the bottom of the glass.

If you don't blend the drink, then how do you get the Coco Lopez to dissolve???

We're looking forward to making a batch and taking it and some rum with us to the beach. But - only if I can figure our how to make it GREAT.

What do you do?

Thanks!

We actually use one carton of orange-pineapple juice (dole?), I can of coco lopez (melted in the microwave so it dissolves), and pussers rum to taste with fresh nutmeg on top. Shaken, not stirred. Our friends swear it tastes just like the soggydollar recipe!

Try mixing the pineapple and oj with the coco lopez first. You could probable use a blender. I noticed at Soggy Dollar that all of that was pre-mixed in a jug. It was poured over the rum and ice then topped with rum and nutmeg. Another idea I use is to put the can of coco lopez in hot water for awhile and let it melt.

Get a gallon jug and add:

1 - 46 oz. can pineapple juice
1 - can Coco Lopez (Put can in water bath on stove to disolve)
1 - 15 oz. orange juice
Dark Cruzan Rum

Shake well. Put ice in cup, add mixture of above ingredients to 2/3 full, fill rest with rum, sprinkle nutmeg on top. Pour in second cup and back into first cup and ready to drink.
