Just got back last night at 10 pm from our 4-night getaway at Caneel.

This morning, pouring my coffee at 9:00 a.m. looking out my kitchen window at the snow and ice, I thought to myself, "just 24 hrs ago I was sitting on Scott Beach, drinking my coffee, and watching the turtles pop their heads out of the water."

It's just wrong, just totally wrong.

Trip report soon come.

This weather is really depressing and I can only imagine how depressing it would be to face this after just returning from vacation! I feel your pain.

Oh, that is depressing.

I hope you had a nice trip though. Was the water warm? I hope so!

We all want a report on your fabulous stay at Caneel. My countdown is going way too slowly and I'm needing some word from STJ. Was the water warm? Were the skeeters bad? Is it dry on the island or lush and green?

We had great weather, only a few spotty showers here and there which lasted only a minute or two. The water was a tiny bit cool. Let me preface my comments by saying I prefer my pool water to be 86 degrees; I don't like to tiptoe in, however, even though I like really warm water, the ocean water was certainly manageable.

During the cloudless stretches, it became ultra hot, and you just had to get in the water. I snorkled a fair amount, and I recall only one instance where I felt a little chilly. I didn't have any rashguards, just a regular swimsuit.

As far as bugs/mosquitoes, I am the ultimate bug magnet. My husband and the other couple we were with had zero bug bites, I, however, got hammered as usual. I used Off, provided by Caneel, all the time, which probably prevented more bug bites, but I still experienced more than my share. Oh well, a cross I had to bear. I think that unless you have a propensity for getting bit, like I do, there would be no worries where that's concerned.

The island was green and beautiful. The Caneel grounds were gorgeous. Talk about a strange sight, we saw many red poinsettias planted amongst the other flowers and tropical greens in the flower beds. I snapped a few pics of those.

Our experience at Caneel was just "the ultimate." Hopefully I will get a chance to do my trip report very soon. I seriously need to re-live my experience as soon as possible given this nasty weather we're having!

Martini girl, I know just how you feel and commiserate totally. It's like, "how the Hell did I get here?" It's funny how you don't think that on the beach, just when you're back in the snow. How was a 4 night stay? No matter how long you go for, it's never enough but I'm wondering if you feel it was worth it and if you'd do it again?

Welcome back, glad you had a great time except for the mosquitos. How is the big new entry/ gate at Caneel? Can us poor people still get in?
