We really had a great time and want to go back this summer. I know, it will be hot. We get that and it doesn't bother us.
Just wondering if anyone has been in the summer and what to expect for prices and crowds.

I have been to Vegas for work during all times of the year. Never noticed that much of a price difference in accommodations, but I'm always on the cheaper side of the spectrum in that regard.
In May, it wasn't crazy hot yet. In July, it was sweltering and the crowds were CRAZY! But it may have been sometime around July 4th. August - still pretty crowded IMHO. But I don't go to Trunk because I think its too crowded...so take it for what its worth.

Did you join any of the casino player's clubs when you gambled? Sometimes you can get very cheap rates on rooms through those. We once took advantage of a complimentary suite at Bellagio and free food. Guess we didn't gamble as much as they had anticipated because we haven't received many offers for the suite again.
I'd go in the summer.
I'm glad you had a great time and that you like it.

HOT!! CRAZY HOT!!! Stay in a hotel with a really great pool.
In this economy you can probably end up getting some crazy good deals this year.
I also think the economy will continue to affect the number of visitors. That being said the week-ends are almost always busier than the week-days.
I also check the LV Tourism and Conference schedules. They tell you how many visitors are there at any given time for a specific event. I avoid the big events with 32,000+ visitors!
Just click on the month you think you're interested in going....

We went to Vegas for the first time last July. Really cheap package for flights and 4 nights from Boston. $450 CDN each.
It was really hot, but the dry heat doesn't bother me as much as the humid heat. We would sight see in the morning, hang at the pool in the afternoon and wonder in the evening. It was great! I loved it.
We are thinking of going again, after Kenny of course, in August this year. Even cheaper this year! We are looking at staying at the MGM Grand.
August marks my 40th Bday and our 10th Anniversary.

We went to Vegas in August for a wedding. It was something like 120 degrees and incredibly crowded! I don't think I'd want to do that again.

Check out the Luxor hotel only $60 per night (wooo hooo) in July and August for Sun thru Thu (inc) then only around $120 per night for weekend nights
I have stayed there several times on business - it is at the end of the strip but a nice hotel

I just got an e-mail with a similar offer from Mandalay Bay (Mandalay Bay from $65 and THEHotel from $85) plus $100 credit toward one of the beach cabanas use code: PSUMEM-P2.

Ive also been getting incredible offers from Bellagio and the Venetian. I highly recommend the Concierge level at the Venetian and the Venezia Tower. Awesome service and amenities including VIP access (real VIP access) to just about any club.

Been there in August. Too hot. Even the pool was like bath water and I worried a bit about bacteria.
Like others have said, the best deals are during the week, Sunday - Thursday. The resorts are hurting and you should negotiate some good deals. Don't stay on Freemont St. in the summer...that canapy holds the heat in and no breeze. You walk out of your hotel into a hot box.
Pack like you would for STJ...2 swimsuits, flip flops, and deoderant!
Did you gamble at all last trip? I don't remember seeing that in your report.

I am not worried about the heat at all. I just want to be abke to get places without dealing with huge crowds. There are not many conventions when we would be traveling, so I guess I just need to find the perfect deal on a hotel with a cool pool!
We are not big gamblers, Terry. Dropped a few bucks in the penny slots. Between the 2 of us, we lost around $100 for the 3 days.

Whoa....no one should lose money in Vegas if they play it right.
We go with $100 each to gamble. We figure it's money we can afford to lose. But we play to win. I won $1000 on 2 pulls of Wheel of Fortune once, then again. $400, many $80 pulls. Then we got tired of that as it wasn't challenging enough. We always lost at blackjack, mostly because we sat at the table too long.
If you have time, look up when the craps table lessons are happening. Usually in the morning from 9-11 a.m. Take the free lesson, then they let you play for awhile. You'll know the basics of game and will win 90% of the time...at least we do...knock on wood.
The key is to know when to walk away. We start with $20 at a low stakes craps table. When we make back our $20 we put it in our pocket and play with our profit. (No different than how the stock market used to be!) This way we never lose our initial bet.
We only gamble for 1-2 hours per day, maybe. It is really fun to win! And it gives us money to go to nice restaurants or shows. Several times we've broke even on the whole vacation.

Like everyone has said...HOT. It is manageable, though. You not being big gamblers IMO = must have great pool. The following hotels are known for their great pools:
Mandalay Bay
Mirage
MGM
Bellagio (nice, but not a party/tropical atmosphere)
Hard Rock (if you like young folks in skimpy suits and rock music)
Stay out late and sleep in. Grab breakfast and hit the pool. This also helps limit your "casino exposure" and saves the gambling budget!
Have a blast, we always do no matter the time of year.

We have casinos less than an hour away and I have never won more than $20. I guess I am not doing it right? That is an odd comment to me, I sit at a penny slot machine with a dollar, when it is gone, I get up. That is how I gamble.
I have no desire to play table games and do not have the attention span to sit in a class that teaches me how to lose my money.
I could easily go to Vegas and never gamble. Not that big of an attraction for me. Many people really enjoy it and do well, that is just not for me.

I love Vegas, and I would never have to drop a dime in a slot machine to be happy there. There's so much going on.
If you signed up for any of the casino clubs while you were there (sometimes they automatically sign you up wherever you stay), you'll start to get offers soon enough.
I have to agree with everyone who says that weekdays are best. We always go Sunday-Wednesday or Sunday-Thursday but then get out of town for the weekend. Way too busy!
I've only been there in late summer, but it will be hot in summer. As for crowds, it seems to stay about the same unless there is a big event or a holiday weekend.
