I want to suprise my wife for our 20th anniversery in April. We are planning on spending most our time on St John but I am hoping to find a sailing charter that does overnight. I am thinking sailing, snorkling, overnight on Jost, then snorkling and sailing more and then back to St John. Are there such charters?

We didn't overnight but we did a daysail with Bread on the Water. BEAUTIFUL boat and very hospitable captain and first mate (his wife) and they do overnight sails.

Couldn't agree more Pia (how the heck are you by the way???) Capt. Joe was awesome on our daysail! We had a blast!!

We'll be there from the 4/23-5/7. Margo and Rick are staying with us on Sun. 5/3 at Easy Breezes in Coral Bay. We should all get together!!! Maybe at the B.B.?

Forever Young based out of Redhook on St. Thomas does over night sails. They picked us up in Redhook, sailed, snorkled, served lunch, overnight on Jost. Then breakfast, sailed, snorkled and drop off on St. John. It was a great two days. The captain and wife make great hostesses. Larry and Betty Fries. I'm sure they will pick up on St. John also. My wife and I split our honeymoon 6 night on St. John and 6 nights on a chartered yacht throughout the BVIs...it was the perfect mix.

We went on Yacht Phaedrus, which I can not say enough good things about. Charles and Leslie are great hosts and terrific chefs/bakers and the yacht(50 foot Morgan) is beautiful and relatively spacious (its still a boat, however).

If you are interested in doing more than 1 night, you should definitely consider them. They usually book trips a week at a time, but if they aren't busy, perhaps they would do a shorter trip(just a guess).

casherino: I saw your post on Gromit's packing thread and went searching for your trip report. I found this post. Has anyone else used them?? I think it would be a lot of fun--maybe we will try this next instead of trying an all-inclusive.

Any advice?

I would definitely give Captain Joe a call. My husband and I have asked him about the overnight sail and he does in fact do them. One of these times we are going to try it.

I highly recommend it....I wouldn't do it every vacation (couldn't afford it either) but as a splurge, it was awesome. Keep in mind, its luxurious, but a different kind of luxurious from what you get at 5 star resort. You have people who's job it is is to take care of your every need, but at the same time, you are still on a small yacht so you need to expect that it will be tight quarters. Its not for everyone, but I thought it was great. It also takes a certain kind of person who is able to be a host/hostess in that situation. Charles and LEslie on Phaedrus are great in that they know when to engage in conversation and know when to subtly withdraw.

The general plan was we woke relatively early and had a cup of coffee in the cockpit...hung around for a little while as they got breakfast ready - typical breakfast food with delicious fresh muffins, breads, etc. After breakfast, we sailed to our next destination (roughly an hour give or take). We then snorkled, explored, etc. while they stayed on the boat taking care of stuff, prepping lunch, etc.

After lunch, we usually sailed to our next destination where we would plan on anchoring for the night, getting there by mid afternoon. snorkel, explore until cocktails before dinner (which was prepared by a Gourmet Chef).

Everyday was a similar pattern but varied enough not to get boring.

Edit: If you want to whet your appetite, check out some of the yacht chartering sites. We used sherry yates to book our trip - I definitely recommend her.
