So I woke up at 4:15AM this morning in Coral Bay and now I'm at my "other home" in Maryland. It's cold and everyone's driving on the wrong side of the road. And there's way too many of them. From tree frogs to tundra swans. I do love them both. but still... The Tradewinds and St. John Magazine that I read on the plane are on my dresser but they seem so far out of place here already. But I'm with my dogs again, and they are SO GLAD to see me. And I feel the same about them. But I wonder who's on my porch tonight, gazing out over Coral Bay. And how did the bananaquits feel about me leaving them behind? Where's my VI Summer Ale? Not here, that's for sure. Man, this is tough...

Randy, I'm sure your dogs are thrilled your home but I'm sure it's hard being home - especially in this cold.
However, I am THRILLED that this time next week, I'll be the one sitting on your porch enjoying the twinkling lights of Coral Bay harbor. Thank you for building such a great home - can't wait!

Randy, how's Reef Madness holding up? I'd love to hear a crazy renter story. Like the one who couldn't figure out how to change the temperature setting on the a/c...
Cheers, RickG

Hey, Randy. How were the crowds while you were there? We wake up one month from now on STJ and are looking forward to our 2 weeks. We haven't been down during high season for quite a while and I'm wondering how busy it is with the economy in the dumps the way it is here in the states. I've been looking at occupancy in the villas and it looks pretty lean down there. I'm hoping the beachs aren't too crowded and parking is a bit easier in town. I'm looking forward to your trip report and hope your 're-entry' is not too painful.

Diana - Our last 3 visits were in off-season and it's always a bit of a shock to see the January influx of visitors. We only made a couple of evening visits to Cruz Bay and it didn't seem too crowded (save for the Steve Simon CD release party at the Beach Bar - that was packed!). We parked at Slim Mans both times. Traffic through town is a little worse than normal with the one way street that passes The Lumberyard, Ronnie's Pizza and the Boulon Center. The beaches were fairly busy. Cars were parked along Northshore Road outside of the entrance to Trunk. The restaurants in Coral Bay were all busy, but in a bustling good way. So yes, the in-season crowds were there (maybe in slightly smaller numbers), but the island seems to be taking it all in stride.
