Opinions please - booking a trip to BVI

Looking for some opinions on whether or not we should book in advance a day trip to the BVI's. We have decided on Bad Kitty through Calypso (because of the boat, we like the way the ladder is steps that go into the water, as it's hard for me to get up a regular boat ladder).
Since it will just be the two of us, should we wait until we see a weather report, or book in advance?
What do you all do?

Hmmm - never really thought about booking in advance versus booking while you are there. The first time to St. John we did some fishing trips and if the weather was off we didn't go and just went another day. When I was in Tortola and we did a day cruise to other islands, etc. we just booked it. It was raining in the morning but by the time we got to our first snorkeling location the clouds broke and the rest of the day was gorgeous. Perhaps you can ask the owner of the boat what their policy is - if the weather is really going to be shotty on the day you're going to go perhaps they will do it another day. Otherwise I would just keep in mind that 9 times out of 10 the rain doesn't last all day and if its raining on St. John, it doesn't always mean that it is raining over at Jost. GL!

We booked a month in advance with Captain John of Palm Tree Charters. As to the weather, I'm sure your captain would keep you informed. We were scheduled for a Wednesday and due to high seas a couple days, we didn't get to go out until Saturday!

I would book right away. I am not sure how busy they are but I would hate to call when I got on island only to find that they are booked for your entire trip.

We are going out with Ocean Runner this trip and we went with "Lion in Da Sun" last year. They both
suggested that you book a day early in you trip in case of bad weather, then if possible, they try to reschedule for another day prior to you leaving. I always book ahead of time during high season.
Good Luck
