OMG-- watching live now. It reinds me of the 14th street bridge accident and DC-- it's so cold those people will not last for long in those temps in that water.
OMG!!
I hope they can get them out in time!

Just saw it and came on here to check. It said it was bound for Charlotte. I hope none of our "family" was on that flight headed to STJ as I think lots of you stop in Charlotte on your way.
My thoughts and prayers got out to everyone involved.

it left from LaGuardia.
possibly birds caused engine failure.
it's making me sick to see this live footage.

I'm watching this too. From one survivor's account, it sounds like pretty much everyone was able to get out alive. I hope that is true.
I thought the exact same thing about our forum family since US air is what we typically take to get to STT.
Thank God this plane stayed afloat for so long.
Prayers out to those affected.

nothintolose-- I was thinking the same thing.
Just praying that no one from our forum family is on that flight.
Ugh. I'm near tears thinking about it....
This is awful. But hopefully the rescue efforts are successful!

I also wondered if we might know anyone on the plane.
It's really cold there today, so I hope everyone gets out safely.

this plane was scheduled to go to seattle and I'd think this is too late for any CLT connection to STJ.
msnbc is reporting that it is possible everyone got out safely. they were preparing for it, it sounds likely. and luckily a ferry boat was very near by. people were standing on the wings.

I'm not near a TV and there's relatively nothing on the net about it yet! Hope everyone's ok. I just can't imagine how cold that water must be! At least it appears not to have broken up and it stayed afloat for a bit! Please keep me posted via this thread. I won't get to a TV for at least 3 hours!

My wife is in NYC right now flying out today. Got a little freaked when I saw this. She's on Delta on a later flight, but still a little disconcerting. I wondered if anyone from here was on this flight. There's a few supposed to be leaving today.
I saw the news clip online the other day about there not being any airline-related deaths in the last two years, and thought "Oh great. Now it's jinxed. Here's comes a crash."
Hope everyone is OK...

Thanks MB! I have it on now! Amazing shot of all those people standing on the wings! I'm glad they're reporting no one hurt!
