I'm thinking about getting a Martin LX1 travel-3/4 guitar. Does anyone have experience with this make/model? Any better suggestions for an acoustic that would be easy to carry to STJ?

Pete, I have no experience with the Martin LX1. Martin's backpack guitar is pretty useless. The "Baby Taylor" gets mixed reviews from friends of mine. I've heard good stuff about this JLS Travel Guitar, though:

Here he is playing an accoustic jazz thing with it:<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/es2kg-NmPi8&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/es2kg-NmPi8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I knew I had seen a thread on the this. Thanks for finding it for me. Sounds like the Martin is a winner.

You definitely don't want that. I don't play too badly, but my singing sucks. Marcia is the songbird.

One of my coolest dude friends from college makes small cigar box guitars. See http://gittershop.blogspot.com/

His response to my query...

Travel guitar!!! yes, yes. how about a small cigar box guitar made by yours truly!! they play just like a regular guitar & they're small and light. and, they are so damn cool i can't even begin to tell you. I could custom inlay stuff on it so it's personalized, etc.... i've got some prototype pics on gittershop.blogspot.com if your bud is interested. and, it won't break the bank either....
i'm making one for a friend right now. it is sweet. one of these days, i gotta make MY guitar.

He is an amazing guy and an amazing musician. Check it out. Let me know if you need contact info!

Hey flip...that seems like a pretty cool idea. It would be fun to design it and all. But, the problem is that I won't buy a guitar without first holding it and playing it. They're all different. Tone and resonance on an acoustic also is important. You can't tell that without playing it.

I really do appreciate the idea, though. Thank you.

You can hear Mel play on the other forum page I posted it last night Another day with Captain John Brandi. I thought it sounded good, but he's not happy with the sound. Of course he is never happy that is why we have 9 guitars in the basement.
