My countdown is starting to get me excited about our February trip. I'm enjoying your photos, Carolyn. Where did you see the checkered puffer?

Thanks Diana! I saw the checkered puffer at SAlt Pond, on the left, not very far out.

That's a real good siting and another reason do snorkel Salt Pond. Did you make it all the way out to the rocks in the middle of the bay? We always see some great stuff out there. It's worth the swim out and back

Diana, we have always snorkeled at salt pond but this was the first time we went to the rocks out in the center. It IS well worth the effort to get there , not that hard at all, just looks far,and that is where I saw the first octopus tucked into the ledge. I hoped he would move around for me but he seemed very content to stay there. It is quite stunning out there. Someone told me to look for a large crab out there but I couldn't find it. Salt Pond NEVER disappoints!
The happy octopus:

Wow - wonderful pictures. I love seeing Octopus. Thanks for posting - looking forward to more. I am missing STJ and snorkeling big time right now.
