Renting w/ another couple or two....

So, here I sit at home, s/b getting ready for work! and I'm looking at villa's to rent. The next time we go to STJ I'm sure we'll go with another couple or two or three. And what I'm wondering it: How does each couple pay their share of the villa?
When we rent the villa can we arrange with the villa agency for each couple to pay their share, be it 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4, on their credit card?
See, you thought the questions were going to stop. Ha-ha-ha!!!
Thanks bunches and now it is time to get ready for work so I can afford to go back!!

We are renting with 2 other couples and we paid on 3 different cards. Destination St. John had no problem with it at all.

Thnx Xislgrl - After I get back from my 10 day cruise in April I'm going to start working on some of my friends and see if I can't nail them down on going. So far they are all drooling over the pics we've shown them. Now it will just be pay up time!!
Off to work! I haven't been since the 15th...I hope I survive!!

The way we are doing it is that we paid the first half already and the other couple (Cat and hubby) is paying the other half when the rest is due.

We always rent directly through the owner and when the first payment is due, I find out how much it is and when it's due and then let the others know and we split it up. When the final payment is due we do the same thing. I try to give at least 3 months notice to everyone.
One thing we did last year was to make a grocery/booze kity the first day. Everybody put in $100.00 and when ever anyone needed anything from the store, they took it out of the kity and put the receipt in. Not that we ever looked at the receipts, trust was not an issue. We are all family. When we started running low, we put more in. We had some left over and split it up between the 4 couples. This is so much easier than one person stopping at the store and then collecting from everyone, making change and that whole hassle.
Have a wonderful trip!

Ah Ha!!!!
I just finish posting my response to your trip report, joking about your planning the next trip, and go back to the forum and here you are!!
Isn't it wonderful to start planning to go back as soon as you get home?? Let us know how you feel AFTER the 10 day cruise. We have done a lot of cruising but NONE since we found STJ 3 years ago. I just don't think I could handle the crowds, schedules, or clothing required for cruising anymore.
Keep us posted, Happy Planning!!!

alternative to villa cost sharing

coden,
this response is not responsive to your question so with proper objection each reader may strike. buttt i thought i'd share a relevant thought.
the bride (of 40+ yrs) and i fell in love with stj on a last minute trip in oct 2004. no cost sharing then cause the only one with us was 34 yr old daughter who's occupation has gotten us free flts to stt. she only stayed 3 days leaving poor mom and dad to fend for selves. we did and frankly those remaining wonderful days rekindled a relationship that needed a boost. to us with a common love for the ocean, beaches and sunsets, stj is heaven.
since that first trip we've been back once just the 2 of us and four times with others, last trip in dec was a second trip with a couple we've been friends with for over 40 yrs. the trips with others were great and no problems but we did seem to waste a lot of time deciding when and where etc. after returning home bride and i agreed we both missed the intimacy of being alone with each other in paradise with no one to consult! thus we are booked to go back 1/19 and we can't wait.
point of all that? try a trip of just the 2 of you at a villa with sunset views and a pool or hot tub that offers privacy. grill fresh fish and have dinner on the deck with your favorite bottles of wine enjoy where ever that leads.
yes, we ENJOY seeing others awe and raves over the beauty of stj and the fun we have as a group. buttt, the bride and i LOVE stj for the 2 of us! try it you may like it.

We love to travel alone and we love to travel with others. It just depends on the trip. We have cruised alone and with others, and loved it both ways. We take a weekend trip every month, just the two of us and we are spending my husband's 40th with 2 other couples.
I just depends on what you are looking for on vacation. I love taking a trip with just the 2 or us but I have fabulous memories of traveling with friends as well.
I think the most important thing is to sit down with everyone and discuss what you want from the trip. We find most of the time, we all want the same things and when something different comes up, we just wing it.

nothingtolose - that is a good way of doing it. I would do the 1st pay and be done with it!!
neisy - We went on vaca this past Sept w/ 2 other couples and saved receipts. It was a Hassle at the end of the trip. I like your way better and will suggest it for the next time we do a couples trrp!
Jan&Mike - This upcoming cruise will be my 10th. I like Land vacations as well as the Sea vacations. Plus, with cruising, it is an easy way to go to an Island and then to decide if we ever want to go back. Many I've not cared to go back to, so far only STJ!!
This next one I'll visit St. Lucia, Martinque, Grenada and Antigua...so I am really excited to check these new islands out.
papapou - I here what you are saying. And I do think that more than likely, our next trip back will be just the 2 of us. We'll stay in some nice little place, with a hot tub and reconnect!
Xislgirl - I agree that we all need to be in the same mindset about what each persons disires are, afterall it is their vacation too and if you don't speak up, how is one to know?
