Chill out - you are like a dog with a bone - won't let it go. I tried to turn this thread around and still you won't let it go - we'll see how long it takes for your next come back - how dare anyone disagree with you.

Sorry (well not really) if you read that - I found it a very interesting email but only if you are open to it.

Pia, c'mon. This isn't about disagreeing with me. I told Lulu last night that we can agree to disagree. I'm not the only one here who didn't like the inference of racism last night.

And why do we always have to lectured on "if your mind is open to it" from the left? Has your mind been open to any of my points?

And no. My mind is not open to me possibly being racist because I choose not to vote for a socialist with very controversial (at best) ties.

Keep demonizing me if you must.

If there had been a less liberal Democrat on the ticket, they might have gotten my vote. To me it's a question of Capitalism vs. Socialism. There's a part of me that wants to care for everyone in this world, that no child or eldely person should be homeless or without health care. (those who are able bodied and between 20-55 or so are on their own) I want our streets and country to be safe. I want our schools to provide our children with a high quality education.

Are my husband and I fortunate that we can afford to live in a safe neighboorhood and send our son to a private school, or is it because we've worked really hard, and haven't taken on more than we can handle (only 1 child, an affordable mortgage).

I keep coming back to personal responsibility and accountability.

I was taught at an early age that it is good to share your toys. Others may not like to share...like a little kid they scream, "mine, mine...don't touch it...get your own."

If sharing is socialism...I'm a socialist. I'm okay with our government helping those who are less fortunate. In fact, I think that is an ideal that makes this country great.

This is my opinion and I do not need to be told that it is "wrong." There is no "right" or "wrong" in this debate...only differences of opinion and beliefs.

Somehow, until yesterday, we've had 4 or 5 HEATED political threads without the "R" word being mentioned or inferred. Nasty things were said (some by me), but nobody inferred that if you weren't voting Obama you might be a racist until you did so yesterday.
Pia's post was, in my view, thought provoking.

I mean really..."Milano" Need we say more!

people have OPENLY SAID THEY WILL NOT VOTE FOR A BLACK MAN--
what more proof do you need?
if you have made calls for the campaign then you come across this routinely

Sorry sailor...It was late last night...Typed an "N" instead of a "T".

Should have read "Milato". Thanks for calling me on it.

And there are blacks who will only vote for Obama because he is MILATO (thanks sailor). What's your point?

Like I said, I hope those two groups cancel each other out.

Socialism is a new catch phrase to label liberals. The "L" word has lost its bite due to overuse in politics. Many have found that it wasn't a negative enough connotation. So they've now branded any idea that helps those less fortunate as a Socialist idea or another step toward socialism. If we are truly democratic we should be a melting pot of the best ideas from all political ideologies. Face it, every faction in this discussion has ideas that have value. Regardless of where it comes from a good idea is a good idea.

The Republicans think the government should have less involvement in everyone's lives. Who can argue with that? The Democrats think the government should do more to help those who aren't as well off. Can you go to church on Sunday and argue against this with your pastor?

The nut jobs and the instigators have driven the debate for far too long. Everyone needs to reign in their claws, soften their stance, make some concessions and move toward the middle. That's the only way we'll move forward as a country. Otherwise we're doomed to endless bickering and more vicious attack politics.

If you were attempting humor... you missed the mark. If not, the fact that you reach back into the last century to use a word (still mispelled) which many consider to be archaic at best and cetainly pejorative is illuminating. I am a generation older than you, perhaps age will serve to moderate your views.
