Sorry that I haven't read the whole thread - I was pi**ed off by the end of page one - my advise......they are out of there...now - change the locks and be done with it - ungrateful little shi*s.

They are not family, they didn't fall onto hard times because one of them has cancer and wiped out all their savings to pay their medical bills - they should be cleaning your house, cooking, doing whatever they can do to help you - not thinking the world owes them something (and getting high on your booze either)

Sorry if you have already done this and it's on page 3 (now I'll go back and read the whole thread) but boy did this ruffle my feathers :)

I will send you these items if you make them leave immediately after the cabinet thing:

1) One grass skirt.
2) One coconut bra.
3) One CD with the steel-pan cunga song on it.
4) One pound of Cruz Bay Grill Rub.
5) One pound of Rum Tea.
6) Two Ting and two mini bottles of Cruzan rum. (You pick the flavors.)

This is a very good bribe. Please consider this offer.
Respectfully,
-Ruth

LOL. I'd consider kicking out some of my own family for less than that.

They are obviously smack dab in the middle of the entitlement generation. I think you have exceded your duties as a friend. I'd give them a couple of weeks to get their acts together, and then when they are out, change the locks and take a vacation. Call it tuff love or what ever makes you feel better. Bottom line is they are bums sponging off your good hospitality. Get rid of them before they ruin your marriage. They are not incapable of working and supporting themselves. They just don't want to. I wouldn't give them a choice.

Hey! As some of you know, my crowd and I are into Punkin Chunkin. The international competition is next weekend and we're looking for ammo for this gun. It shoots pumpkins about 4000 feet and bowling balls over a mile. I'm not sure how far we could shoot a couple of knuckleheads, but hey, Jorge, you bring 'em, we'll shoot 'em!

Today's update:

They had a successful injunction filed yesterday to not have the house sent to the street on Saturday.

They're meeting the lawyer tonight to discuss the future. Apparently, work to date is setting them back $1000 - $3000. Apparently, they have money for this (but not to pay the mortgage???)

If there's a case that the process was mis-handled, the lawyer will take the case on contingency should they sue the city/county/state/bank etc.

Last night, K asked me if I could fax something. I said I could...all I needed was a file and fax number (work e-fax account). I asked what it was...she was faxing our Congressman, Brad Miller and Senator, Elizabeth Dole to wail about all of this. I said I would not permit that from my work-supplied fax number. Fax your crazy from somewhere else.

As for departure: The date is Oct 31. Before then, they need to be out because we're headed to the coast for the weekend. I'm out of town next week and am not thrilled about having them still around, but it's the best we can do.

Until then, M is supposed to be upstairs right now constructing the "cabinet" frame we need to build in the kitchen. Since I don't hear a saw, I'm going to have to go upstairs in a few to kick him into action. I'm using him for carpentry. Once this is done though, I'm out of tasks I need done in the house. The granite comes next week for the kitchen. When this is done, I'll have used him for a new deck and a kitchen full of cabinets.

More to come...

Kudos to you for finding a way to get some sort of compensation from them (the carpentry). It sounds like you are handling it all in way that makes you okay with yourself, and that is what is important. Letting them stay even this long doesn't make you a "pushover", it makes you human!

I would still booby trap the house to see if they enter while you are on vacation for the weekend (even though they should be long gone)! Just for the peace of mind.

I've always found that a piece of my hair (long) stuck between the door and the frame works well. The intruder has no idea that they have just given themselves away, and they cannot "re-rig" it!
