Hey Lori,

Nate asked me yesterday if we can go on vacation with you again someday. I said ABSOLUTELY!

I know we'll do a celebration trip, maybe 2011, maybe 2012... to celebrate Gunner being cancer free!

Cheryl - thank you for the link; I'll take a look!

Chickadee, thank you! The journal is a wonderful idea. This is a new road for all of us, and it does help to hear from those who have traveled it ahead of us.

And to all - thank you for your prayers! I believe in their power.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes! A quick update:
Things are going well and feel much more "normal" than I expected. Although he gets tired and has less of an appetite, DH has felt well enough to play basketball and golf a few times. And last week we got to go on a mini-vacay, up to the camp in Saugatuck MI that we have gone to every year since the kids were babies. (And before that, for me.) It is our favorite place - peaceful and nearly untouched for decades - the kind of place that soothes the soul. It was great to be back there with many of our "camp friends."

DH is completing his second round of chemo today. His first round was 3 weeks ago, so he had 2 weeks off. It's not that bad -- he gets hooked up to a small portable pump on a Monday and wears it until Friday. The pump is attached with tubing to a port that was surgically implanted last month, and continuously feeds the chemo meds (5FU) through the port. We call this set up his ManBag and although we have poked fun at it, he is definitely manly enough to carry off the ManBag look.

Here is a pic from his first round (don't worry, he already had a shaved head). The neighbors showed their solidarity and support for the ManBag look. Even Hendrix the dog got to wear one.

Katie, this is very encouraging news! I'm so glad you posted! I think the "man bag" look is amazing in the fact that he can go about his day-to-day life while receiving his chemo.

Still sending those good vibes your way!

Katie,
Thanks for the update.
We drive by Saugatuck on our way to South Haven every week. The shores of Lake Michigan have a very healing quality for the mind and spirit. Did you get to any of the local restaurants while you were there? Hopefully you got to see some wonderful sunsets.
I'm very happy to hear things are going so well for you guys. It is wonderful that you have such special neighbors.
Continued positive thought coming you way from my side of the big lake.
