Great topic
I have travelled to various parts of the Caribbean, but ony for work, as odd as that may be. So, I felt like I was perpetually only seeing the water from a plane or for the few brief hours between working and packing to leave. Last August, I was at a charity auction where they had a villa stay on STJ, and something told me "I had to go", so I held up my auction sign and bought it. I didn't even know precisely where on the map STJ was! I found this forum, and felt like a seasoned STJ'er by the time I arrived at the ferry dock. Very nice. I "got it" and extended my stay by 10 days!! There is something far different about that island. Just returned on Feb.3rd from my first trip, a Trip Report soon come.

Like many others on the forum, I'm also a super-researcher before vacations. In 2005 my husband and I were looking to splurge on a last pre-baby vacation, so I hit google. We wanted someplace beachy with easy-access snorkeling (he gets super-motion sick on boats). We'd been to Mexico, FL, Australia, etc. previously. I really wanted to rent a villa instead of stay in a resort and go someplace that felt authentic instead of touristy. We also were hoping to avoid an all-day flight to get someplace. Once we started researching St. John I found this forum and knew it was perfect. We were right! This summer we're going back with our almost-two-year old and Grandma (husband's mom) as nanny. We can't wait!
