Other than Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley, I have two:

"Tripping Billies" - Dave Matthews Band..."Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die" is one of my favorite lines in any song, and there's just something about Eric Lindell's "Give It Time" that makes me feel like chillin'.

The last one can be perfect for just watching a sunset from your villa deck or sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in...or sitting in a chair at Jazz Fest with looking up at blue skies with a sea of flags all around you :)

Some really great music here!

I don't know if this was already mentioned but I always love Everybody's Talkin (Harry Nilson). Something about that line "Going where the weather suits my clothes." Ahhh...

I second the 50 First Dates soundtrack. If you LOVED new wave 80's music, this soundtrack remixes old faves as semi-reggae tracks. It was how I discovered another of my new island favorites: Elan. Great artist, good island music.

I'm starting to think Flip Flop and I have just about the same taste on everything.

For me it is Montego Bay by Freddie Notes and the Rudies. Yeah, it is a song about Jamaica, but every time I hear it I think of driving around the curve to the descent into Coral Bay. For some reason, that song was ALWAYS on the cd player when we got to that spot. It happened every time.

Great thread! I took notes on all your favorites and am going to check them out tonight on itunes. I have a bunch of free song coupons to cash in.

I'm also a 50 First Dates fan. Both the music and the movie! I love those old songs done up Reggae style!

Another fave of mine is "Sailing" by Christopher Cross. And to put in my 2 cents on KC... I've got to admit I think "Magic" is one of the best on his Be As You Are CD. Can't wait to crank it up at sunset on the deck at our villa next month! :D

Vicki I know I come back to it often, but when I saw you were a girl who liked sushi and doritos I knew you were my kind of girl! Now, I gotta get a cocoberry shake and see if we truly are of one mind!

Our first time staying in a villa was on Tortolla and after a day of rain, we found this neat little restaurant for dinner. There was this guy named MJ Blues singing and he was so good! A couple of songs that will always be special because of that night are "What a Wonderful World" by Louie Armstrong and "Brown Eyed Girl" by either Van Morrison or Jimmy Buffett.

15 days and counting!

I love that song! From the opening where they start whistling ... takes me right to the islands.

Try also Desmond Dekker's "Take It Easy" or Third World's "Cool Meditation" or Jimmy Cliff's "Under the Sun, Moon & Stars." (got to have some fun ...)

Many Rivers to Cross by Jimmy Cliff. (That's the song I want playing at MY funeral) - it just reaches deep inside you.

Hi ScottB! Hi Tracie!
Okay, but that's a really tiny picture in your avatar. I know it's probably really obvious and I'm going to end up seeming like a dummy and 183 people will probably answer me, but who is it? I've tried looking at it with all my different pairs of eyeglasses and everything.
And, more importantly, have you scheduled the next St. John trip yet?!

Somewhere I have a version of Bruce Springsteen covering that song. It's a good one indeed.
