I guess since it had to do with being sweaty and stinky on island, it would fit in here. I guess I was wrong.........or maybe it wouldn't matter. With all the replies I got, I'm not the only one who had an interest in the topic. I got some great suggestions, so I'm very grateful.

I think this is a great topic. I'm a long time user of Dry Idea roll on, because other brands either don't work or feel icky and sticky when they go on.

However... Carolyn brings up a very good point. I've had concerns about antiperspirants and the link to breast cancer. (I've tried Tom's, which is a deodorant but not an antiperspirant.)

Carolyn does Crystal also prevent sweaty pits? I work out several times a week and have a fairly healthy walk between the train and the office, so I need more than just a deodorant. Sorry to be rather indelicate, but hey I'd rather ask than be all sweaty!

Degree works wonders for me. Although you could go all European and not care what you smell like.

I'm not judging... I'm just saying.

Most of the rest of the world doesn't get our obsesision with staying dry and odorless. I say it helps to contribute to our GDP.

Think about it... France's GDP is in the toilet and they hate deoderant... coincidence?

Hi Kate...Crystal is also only a deodorant, and not an antiperspirant, like Tom's. (My husband tried a man version of Tom's and didn't like it.) The first Crystal product I tried was their stick version that needs a splash of water to apply...I got tired of that and tried the roll on and like it better. I do not sweat excessively to begin with, therefor can't stand a wet feeling under my pits, so I am very pleased with how the Crystal works for me.I have to say it keeps me every bit as comfortable as the Dry Idea did. Our beautiful human bodies are meant to sweat so I think the products to prevent sweating are not in my radar anymore and I am happy to have found the Crystal line of products.

I think there is a lot of useful information here.
This is probably something that no newbie would ever dare ask about, but if they were concerned about this topic they would find this thread if they did a search.

I am a very unpracticed packer because I hardly ever travel and when I do I am extremely disorganized about it. So although I am not an expert, I do think some people might find this topic useful right where it is, on the USVI Travel Forum.

JMHO I do not know why we had to go to an off topic forum, 99% of the time I forget their is even one. It is only when I see an update in the forum subject news bar that I even check it. Deb's topic was about deodorant on island and was totally appropriate and very informational. I will now try the Secret Clinical instead of the Dial I have been using for the past 15 years. Thank you Deb!!! If people do not want to read about a subject they should just skip over and move on to the next topic. Maybe this forum jumped the shark when we went to off topic forum, JMHO.

Betty, you really need to try the hand sanitizer and then the Secret Clinical. I did that this morning, had a nerve wracking Dr. appt., and I didn't sweat or feel nasty at all. I think that's going to be my routine from now on. I only used a small amount of the Secret, since that warning about the aluminum is a bit concerning. My pits still feel fresh as a daisey. That will be my STJ routine, for sure.

Your probably right CG, I rarely go off-topic so I did not realize HOT TOPICS were going on, no problem! I never had to actually reconsider my deodorant till i went into menopause and I find this a totally appropriate topic, especially after trudging through the woods of St John today with Les Between the humidity, bug spray and brush, my Dial was definitely losing the battle

The link above is for a database of all types of products we use on our bodies. It's kinda scary...I have used it to find safer products like lotions and deodorants.

I don't know anyone here that doesn't use deodorant and smells bad. Europe has a LOT of countries that are very different from each other.
