Oddly, when I think of Jimmy Buffett, I think of New Orleans first then the islands. He lived here for a while before he was famous and used to play here in local bars. He also still has an apartment here.

He comes here all the time for Jazz Fest (seems like every other year he plays) and frequently joins other acts on stage or they join him. Last year Sonny Landreth played with him his whole set.

Whenever he plays at fest, you feel like he thinks he's at home. The fact that he gets New Orleans AND the islands is why I am a forever Buffett fan.

I remember Dave Matthews opening for Toad the Wet Sprocket at my college in the early 90s. No one knew who they were but everyone thought they were great.

They played often at our college soon thereafter and my love (some would call it obsession) was born. Its kind of hard to believe I used to get to see them with a couple hundred of my closest friends at Matoaka lake.

Chet, I like the Big Lebowski,too. You also named another all time favorite of mine in an earlier post: King of Hearts.

Music depends upon the mood....no real definitive favorite.

Movie however....Shawshank Redemption

this movie is top notch and the stephen king short story that it is based on is equally as good. one of those rare things when the book and movie are both fantastic.

my family owned a small videostore and customers used to pick this movie up, look at the title, make a funny screwed up "wtf" face and put the box back on the shelf. knowing how awesome this movie is, i started offering a money back guarantee to anyone who rented it. people took me up on it and no one asked for their money back!

You are very right Lysa! I have talked with numerous people and when movie discussions come up and I mention something about Shawshank and they give me that look of what is that...I have never heard of it? If they are good friends then I lend it to them and when they return it they say that really was a good movie. Its just a great uplifting story, which is so odd for King.

Doesnt everybody stumble across Shawshank a couple times a year while channel surfing (esp TNT or TBS)?
Oh, and that final beach scene was shot in St. Croix and looks nothing like Zihuatanejo.

the final beach scene wasn't even in the short story.

the short story ended with morgan freeman at the bus station with those same lines that morgan freeman's voiceover says: "i hope" this and that. gives me the chills just thinking of it.

Yeah, I learned that was STX a couple years ago. Both of the ending scenes you talk about are great. The bus ride voiceover and the beach scene. I am some what partial to the beach scene though.....especially since its in the VI's

My wife hates it when I stumble across TNT or some channel and its on. I almost always end up watching it at whatever part I happen to find it at.

Christine - Cat checked out "Being There" on Netflix after our discussions and comments like, "I like to watch" to see what it was about. You need to ask her what she thought of it. She will crack you up!

I LOVE that movie: it's my favorite Peter Sellers movie!

Flip Flip - I am jealous that you got to see DMB when they were doing the local college circuit!

I don't do favorites but A Fish Called Wanda never gets old.
