Sherban, I liked that book too! And yes, there is a movie, starring the one of the kings of Latin hotness--Antonio Banderas.
Sunny, thanks for the feedback on the Stackhouse books. I think I'll pick them up.

Sunny,
I loved the Stackhouse books too. Good news is there is an 8th book available now and the 9th comes out in hardcover on May 5th (just go to Amazon to find both). There is also a 10th that comes out in October.
Can't wait to get #9 next week.
Enjoy!

Becky,
I loved the Stackhouse series. Perfect beach read, but ya, they do go pretty quick! I read the Twilight series in a week at my family's beach house last summer. Read the 8 Stackhouse books in about a week and half during my "normal life".

Another recommendation for the Stackhouse books. I guess that seals their place in my luggage. They seem like the kind of books that I won't mind leaving behind, so that's another vote in their favor.
I just finished another book that I liked very much: Abundance: a Novel of Marie Antoinette, by Sena Jeter Nausland. She wrote Ahab's Wife, which I think I also recommended in this thread a while back.

I'm going to Barnes & Noble tomorrow to get some new reading material. I'm going to try the Stackhouse books.
Has anyone read the Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Davidson? They look like cute beach reads. I can't do deep right now. I'm in a fluff rutt.

I JUST got my copy of Sookie Stackhouse Book 9 and aleady things are heating up!
These are really fun books and they are addictive! Lots of great characters.
Also looking forward to Ture Blood Season 2 which begins in June.
Good to know that there's another not far behind after book 9 in October.

I have another recommendation. Today I finished reading The Raw Shark Texts, by Steven Hall. It's really unique. I think it could work as a deeper beach read, as long as you don't mind the fact that there are shark and drowning elements to the story. The whole plot concept really freaked me out...I had bizzare dreams about the story every night that I was reading it.
I ended up getting the following for the upcoming trip:
Sookie Stackhouse, books 1-7
The Tourist: Olen Steinhauer
I need three-four more books. I don't want any more mysteries or horror novels. I have to give my overactive imagination a break.

Any new recommendations?

Biography, autobiography...love the who, what, where, why, how...histories...
Having roots in the Virginias, I too, think that Jefferson was quite fascinating.
this book sounds like one to find, maybe today...the fourth straight day of rain for us...very unusual here in May

On vacation, I read:
"Too Fat to Fish" by Artie Lange (some stories were pee-your-pants funny)
"The Innocent" by Harlan Coben (both hubby and I like this guy)
"Belong to Me" by Marisa de los Santos
"The Girl She Used to Be" by David Cristofano
The last two were really, really good!

I just finished "Girls in Trucks" by Katie Crouch over my beach weekend. Very interesting and fast paced read. Its about a Charleston Debutante gone a little awry.

Liamsaunt,
I'm sure you remember that hand-me-down books are always welcome at St. John Spice. Then you don't have to ship a 36-pound box home.
Have you ever read Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson? I will save it for you if you haven't read it.
See you soon.
- Ruth
P.S. Joshie, I'd love to read Columbine and Undaunted Courage also, if you've finished them.

Ruth, I didn't know you welcomed hand me down books at the shop! I always leave mine behind at the places that I stay but will be sure to bring them to you on my next trip.
Liamsaunt, I just read 'The Other Boleyn Girl' and was surprised that I liked it. I also liked the Queen of Babel books by Meg Cabot. I hope you enjoy the Stackhouse books.
Gromit, I LOVED the last book - much better then #8. I read it over the weekend and was sad when it ended. I'm looking forward to True Blood #2 and the next book in October.

I just started watching Season 1 - Holy Cow! I was ironing and my husband came home, looked at the TV and nearly dislocated his neck snapping around upon seeing the "action."
Did I do it backwards, the series before the books? I am one of those annoying "the book is always better than the movie/series" people.

First of all apologies for all the typos in my post. I assure you I am educated and can spell but I skipped typing class!
Anyway, I did not read the books until after I had seen Season 1 of True Blood.
And while the books do give away some of the plot line for Season 2, it gave me a better appreciation for the casting of the series. The casting director got it SPOT ON.
So I don't think that reading the books AFTER you watch the series is wrong at all (since that's how I roll!)
Book 9 felt SUPER short to me and I liked it. So far I just devouring those books. Man, those chapters with Eric are HOTTTTTTTTT!!!
From the previews of Season 2 it looks like they are gonna follow the general plot line.
We'll see.....Stay Tuned!
