Well, to satisfy Jorge's request and to show you what you guys got me into, this is the Tankini I just ordered from Venus Swimwear (I also got an extra bottom in solid black), and it was even ON SALE (not the extra piece, though, unfortunately!)

I am always careful about halter tops for the "girls." If you've got a lot going on up there the halter style can be VERY uncomfortable. Plus if you're active (snorkeling, swimming etc.) they are just not as supportive IMHO.

I have also had decent luck with Target but they are VERY seasonal and don't usually carry suits this time of year. Not until spring usually which is why I didn't suggest them. Otherwise they can have some fun options.

As I was pre-packing last night I tried on all my suits. One of my faves is an "It Figures" suit. The top length is long and it's very flattering.

I'm just grateful that we have so many options these days! The key though (to avoid paying top dollar and to get the best selection) is to buy at the end of the season.

Just sayin'.

Is it just me... ? But I don't see anything above a size 14 on that Venus site.

Both of my suits were halters this year. The one was interesting, but I managed with it. (This was partially my fault for not losing the five pounds I should've lost.) The second one was the land's end one, and it had underwires. All swimsuit tops for big girls should have underwires, because it's just better for me!

The only thing that keeps me from getting a halter style top is the tan line. I don't like the way that looks when you are not wearing a halter style top or dress. But, I do think it's flattering in a swim suit, for all shapes and sizes. Maybe more time back at the villa can cure the tan line issue.

FYI about Venus. I LOVE their suits, all of my good suits are Venus suits but, do be sure to order a cup size larger than you usually wear. They run small. I have one where my cups runneth over and that is a pain in the rear while trying to negotiate snorkel equipment on the shore.

Gromit & Marcia - I agree with both of you on the halter! That string around the neck can sure get awfully "tuggy", especially when you get a little bit of a sunburn! And the tan-line pretty much shows with most shirts or dresses, unless it is a halter dress like Marcia said.

It seems that halters squish the girls together, making them...well...bigger? Good for some, bad for others!

I still have a few halter styles. But then again I went through a swimsuit collectors stage for a bit! I think when you go on vacation, wear whatever the heck you want!

halters= neck pain in my book. I have a suit right now that has a strange halter/strap hybrid and the halter part is always putting pressure on my neck. the strap part is not "pulling it's weight". this is the main reason why i'm looking for a new suit. otherwise, the suit i have now is fine.

i just order an It Figures (was that the name) tankini from a small plus size chain store called catherine's. i hope it fits!!! i only order one size- doh!- shoould've ordered at least two. decnt price (@ $50) and no shipping fees.

So glad that worked out for you since you only ordered the one size! It's difficult to know how it's going to fit when you can't try it on before buying. That's why I always order from Venus. I know how they fit.

So, I hired a trainer and started a new diet this week. I'm looking forward to losing weight, but I'm sad that I'll have to retire my super-awesome swimsuits when I do!

When I do mail order, especially close to a trip, I order two sizes just in case and just send back whichever one doesn't fit.

The bottoms fit so perfect that I don't want to lose more weight!!! Hopefully they'll still fit once I take off in 36 days, 21 hoursa and 9 minutes.

I like that the top flatters "the girls" with a v-neck and lotsa room instead of squishing them.

Is it just me or do you girls have to buy a suit in a much larger size than your pant size?
