Soxfan, DaveS007...both "sides" in this debate seem to be able to find articles to support whatever it is that they want to posit.

In the article that I posted above, it stated that McCain graduated 894 out of 899 in his class at the Naval Academy. One question...is that true? What do your sources say?

I'm not interested in debating any other points, I just want to know if that is true.

ok, if we are all excoriating obama for being a communist (<snicker>...honestly, give me a break) why are we not taking McCain to task for the whole S and L debacle--yeah, he was given a pass.....but I am not sure i buy it--to much of the dirty hands IMHO.
and the absolute LACK of judgement bringing Palin onto the ticket--to appease the christian right. downright craze--eeeeeeeee. Seriously...you want her to be in control? honestly??? what's she going to do, wink at Putin? tell china to drill baby drill? --

I honestly don't think that McCain wanted this and I do feel that his campaign has let him down. I liked the john McCain that existed before this campaign. I thought he was a fairly decent guy (all these guys have some crap in their closets)
-- still wouldn't vote for him (i thought that Richardson was the guy that we needed) , but i do think he is a decent guy whose campaign has made a mockery of him and what he had hoped to stand for.

Connie - I'm with you! Let's write in Anthony as our presidential pick - and he can choose Ruth or Pia as his running mate!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. For both sides, please.

If you can have a resonable political conversation, then you're probably not a redneck

Yes Pete, I believe your information to be 100% correct.

I do not place as big an importance on academia that many of you do. There are many "academics" who can't find their way from here to Dunkin Donuts (and here in New England, that's tough!).

Over 35 years, has he proven that he is more thank capable of serving his country with distinction?

Absolutely.

How it is that John McCain can openly mock Obama as a "liberal" but then offer a socialist solution to the housing crisis is beyond me. Let's just buy up all those bad mortgages. But there I go again, trying to follow the logic. I get off track everytime when I do that.
Michael Jackson...I said that he is still revered in Europe. Is that not true? As for Oprah, I apologized publicly. Nobody here has apologized for some of the shots taken at me (which is fine).

As for buying up the bad mortgages...You are preachin' to the choir. I nearly hit the floor when I hear McCain say that last night. Disgraceful. Is he also going to renegotiate my mortgage based on my home's new value?

No. Why? Because I am one of the 95% of homeowners who pays my mortgage on time. Only 5% of mortgages in this country are in default.

I never claimed McCain to be my perfect candidate. Frankly, all of the greed talk is wearing thin. Sure folks have been greedy here, but the government has helped to facilitate that greed with their "everyone gets a home whether they can afford it or not".

He was exonerated. But at least his issue was investigated (months of congressional hearings). McCain has said that that was the most difficult time of his life, including his time spent as a POW.

Obama's issues have never been dutifully investigated.

Wow. Obama is more talented than I thought. How did he even find time to run for any political office, what with all that time spent developing deep ties with Socialists, Marxists, Communists, Domestic Terrorists, and racists? The man obviously has unbelievable time management skills. The things I learn here!

You're insinuating that these things are not true. It is true that:

1. He sat in Rev. Wright's church for 20 years (racist) ("Not God Bless America...God Damn America!)...That's loving rhetoric

2. One of his own admitted influences in both his career and his values was Frank Marshall Davis (communist)

3. When he launched his campaign for Illinois state senate, William Ayers hosted a fundraiser for him at his home (terrorist) - he also sat on a board with this terrorist

4. Obama was involved in a fraudulent land deal with Tony Rezko - a prosecuted felon

5. It was Obama who said that our troops were "Air-raiding villages and killing civilians"

6. It was Obama's wife who said "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country".

7. Oh, and it was Obama who has worked with, and even represented the reprehensible ACORN in a court of law

These are facts. You don't like them, but you cannot argue them.

Nah. Just bustin your chops with the hope that you would tone it down a little. But now that even my wisecracks give you reason to rant, I ain't taking the bait anymore. And that bait reeks of desperation. Others should consider doing the same. Too bad you didn't take the sincere advice I gave you last night. We get it. You are the Tiger Woods of political rhetoric. Good day.

I'm sure as hell glad that Michelle Obama's proud of her country, because I'm not feeling the love right now.

Did someone here actually tell me to leave America because I said there are things about socialism that aren't that bad?

Let's just go back to arguing about whether Trunk or Cinnamon Bay is better, because it's safe to say that I'm spending a lot less time here than I was.

Here's how it's going to work: About half of America will vote for Obama. About half of America will vote for McCain. It will be close, but unfortunately, one of them will win. Our opinions won't matter, and nothing said here (or probably anywhere else) is going to change anyone's mind. I'm never going to read a post by a McCain supporter and decide that education is properly funded, we don't pay enough taxes and that people who live in the greatest nation in the world should die of a basic illness because they are poor. It's not ever going to happen; I'm just not wired that way. And, frankly, I'm fine with that.

What is it that my grandma always says: When you argue with a fool, two fools are arguing?

I'm done with this. It isn't why I come here. It was fun at first, but now it is just making me dislike people that I used to like, and that's no fun.

He was exonerated.
That's not exactly true. Sen. McCain was reprimanded by the Senate. Plus, it was later discovered that he had failed to report on his income tax returns thousands of dollars worth of gifts from Charles Keating. When investigting Lincoln S&L it was discovered that Keating had written the gifts off as business expenses. On checking Sen. McCain's tax returns the IRS discovered they had not been reported. Sen. McCain then mad a "donation" to the US Treasury to avoid prosecution for tax evasion.

And, you better believe that if Kenneth Starr had been in charge of the investigation, McCain's sex life would have come into play, which would not have been a good thing for the esteemed senator from Arizona.
