Paula - thanks for the update - good luck getting back in and if you didn't get your tetnus shot after Rita, make sure to get one before heading back home just in case.

We're alive and well from Cypress, Texas. We were one of the lucky ones who got power back 2 days ago, so life at home seems normal. But getting out on the streets is a different story. Long lines at Kroger and any station that has gas. Lots of trees and fences down and plenty of roof damage. I feel so bad for those still without power, who may not have it for quite some time. It looks like this storm hit a big hunk of the mid-west. Sorry for all those folks, too.

Good to hear from you Cypress! I was wondering how you were. Hope things get back to normal soon for you and everyone else affected by Ike.

Ike was nice enough to come up to Ohio for a visit to knock down trees and knock out electricity. We got a leftover hurricane and I can't imagine what a real one is like. Hope everyone is safe!

Deb! I didn't realize you were so close to Houston! I'm glad things are [sort of] ok around your neighborhood. My friend who lives in Missouri City evacuated to Austin, but I think he's trying to get home this week. He met a lady from Sugar Land who told him not to go home yet. No power, no groceries, no gas.

Deb, Glad everything went well with you in Cypress. My daughter, her boyfriend and their dog headed to Austin. They lost power Friday night in Houston around 10...said it was real eerie as the only lights on were over at the medical center...they had slight water damage from the strong winds that came down the chimney, otherwise except for the loss of power they were lucky. I am not sure when they will be returning to Houston.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I have several friends who sustained severe tree and wind damage. I am really second guessing the idea of a beach house. Watching the local news, it's going to be a looooog time before some parts of town get power. We have tons of food, so there is nothing I need to get out and do. We are really one of the blessed.

Cypressgirl - those lines you will experience in the near future teach patience when you go through Customs in the USVI...you get used to waiting in lines for everything
Good luck to those of you that will have to deal with insurance companies argueing with you over wind and rain damage and be REALLY careful with contractors.
