Marybeth - Definitely give them a shot. Burgers. Fries. PERIOD. I think they may have hotdogs. That's it. Damn fine. They started in VA and always always always are on the top of the list for the best burger in the DC Metro area.

We just got back and stayed across the street at The Liason.
We loved the Dubliner. Its about 2 blocks away and had really good food, great drinks and music.
It was casual and had a nice feel to it. We went 3 nights in a row. We only ate once but the food was plentiful and good!

On a non resturant note, do you like Flea Markets, Try Eastern Market on Sunday AM. They have food as well as I recall.

Such a great neighborhood, maybe you could ofer some resturant suggestions to MaryBeth in that area. We had breakfast outside a Irish Pub type place which was pretty good, although I can not recall the name. It was just a block from the market.

That would be the neighbrhood pub Tunnicliff's, great for lunch and happy hour. A short walk across the street is Marvelous Market - bread and wine, good sandwiches, and tables by the outside garden. Bread and Chocolate on the corner of 7th and Penn is an excellent breakfast spot. Back past Tunnicliff's a couple of doors is Prego - order deli sandwiches at the counter. At the other end of the Market is a coffee shop at 7th and NC (Go Heels!) - good coffee and pastries, comfy tables, couches, and over-stuffed chairs in front...good for people watching. Right next to the coffee shop is a Salvadorian deli/lunch counter (best lunch at the Market. The big attraction is the Market Lunch inside the "new" temporary market building. This is where all the food vendors are. You can get a tasty half-smoke at Union Meats. Oh yeah, across from Hine School is Montmartre, a very nice french restaurant, and a Ben & Jerry's next door. All this within a 2 block strip of 7th St, SE. The outdoor flea market spreads out over the playground behind Hine. The old Eastern Market went up in flames last year and is being rebuilt. Out side the Market, under the portico, are produce vendors, and artisians.
Across Penn Ave and up a block is the 8th St "Barracks Row"...Belgium, Italian, Tapas, Indian, Mexican, Irish, seafood, martini bar, etc, etc.

Well this trip is coming around soon.
I'm wondering from the locals is the city going to be kinda dead over Thanksgiving weekend? I haven't made any advanced dinner reservations. Is that a mistake?

ok, here's the dynamics...
A percentage of residents are headed over the river and through the woods.
Restaurants will be offering the Turkey Day special on Thursday - usally reservations are required.
Black Friday - shopping and eating go hand-in-hand; restaurants may be busy but it's a good day for leftovers.
Saturday - you are getting tired of the in-laws and various house guests; busy night for dining out (also big party night)
...random thoughts.
