It is frustrating when things don't work as simply as they should. I would give the Apple store a shot. I also think that you can call ahead of time an make an appointment with one of their techies. That would save some waiting time, depending on how crowded the store may be.
As I mentioned, we have about a gazillion iPods in this house and we all love them. Don't give up just yet.

We bought a 4GB nano for mom-in-law; it works great. If the issue is just with the 8GB, the 4GB will give you tons of music.
Don't give up! They are a great thing!

Don't give up! Itunes is jammed the first few days after Christmas. I kept getting error messages until the internet traffic slowed down...it was almost a week after Christmas. Be patient, and the store visit might be your best bet.

Yippee! It is finally working. I ended up on the phone with an Apple rep for over an hour to figure it all out. My itunes would not download to the one I needed for some reason. He said it is because of software issues.
Anyway, I am listening to it right now on my splurge purchase of a Roxy speaker case thanks to Vicki H. It is pretty cool. I returned the ski helmet my husband purchased for me and got the case instead. Hopefully I won't fall on the slopes or hit a tree anytime soon......
Thanks for all your help - now I need to load my CD's order some new tunes and get my playlists in order...

All right, I have the newest version of the <a href="
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html? ... b></a><img src="
https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=car ... &l=ur2&o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt=""> video, they like to call it the Ipod classic. I have a couple short dvds I'd like to put on, but I don't know how to do it at all. I basically need step by step instructions to do it, I also need the instructions for doing it on a Mac. How to put a dvd on my Ipod with out buying a program? If anyone can explain to me, or give me a link of the best and easiest step by step instructions. Thank a lot.

I would recommend an otter box (waterproof case)for your nano. I bought one for my mini a couple of years ago. It does add to the size but no worries about sand or water at the beach/pool or if you run/walk in the rain. I got mine on ebay pretty reasonable.

There is a free program called Handbrake that, once downloaded, can convert your DVD to a format that can be transferred to your iPod.

Pete I have a feeling this post is spam - asking about how to get video on the iPod. New registrant and goes back into a year old thread... I know they didn't leave a link (I added one to Amazon) but would not be surprised to see them come back and try. It is so sophisticated sometimes I think they (the spammers) must have humans doing it post by post.

I feel so violated.

How much for that video?
Handbrake works pretty well. I just wish the copyright holders would embrace fair use and let use use the content on all of our devices. I've moved to Amazon DRM-less music rather than the more expensive and restricted itunes store.
