Summerwaters - Ice cube trays is such a great idea! I would never have thought of that. And believe me, I've been thinking about what to bring for 7 long months.

Ok - maybe not the weirdest, but the stupidest idea ever! Day after our wedding cab's coming at 4:30 am to pick us up for our STJ honeymoon. Just before I walk out the door, I see the left over Godiva truffles from the wedding on the kitchen table (in those cute little wedding boxes with the interlocking hearts to keep them closed). I know my brand new husband loves chocolate. I grab them and toss them in my bag, thinking what a great surprise for him. Fast forward about 12 hours. We arrive at our villa. I'm hot and sticky and all I want to do is change into clean clothes and get something to eat (yes we were an older couple and had lived together for several years already). Open suitcase - yep - everything (and I mean everything) inside was spotted with melted chocolate. He had a good laugh and I offered to let him lick. Instead we headed over to Starfish and bought laundry detergent.

Worthy of mention...I've never had the um, coconuts, to pull it off, but I know a few forumites have mentioned taking a machete to STJ...I'm assuming that's a "checked bag" item.

Instead of taking ice cube trays why not just partially fill (~3/4) an empty water bottle or two. The ice lasts longer and doesn't get stuff soggy when it melts

You said exactly what I was going to post..lol..only I wrap it in paper towels and place it in a gallon ziplock bag..keep its from sweating and when it melts...we have cold water to drink.. I did this in my carry on last yr to help keep meats etc. cold...as long as it is frozen its not a problem to carry on...

If you are one to get up in the night, and especially if you have kids with you, bring a nightlight or two, depending on the size of your villa.

A Tervis cup is a good idea. Ice in drinks really melts fast on St. John!

The weirdest thing you pack is a _ _ _ _ _ ?
Some of you people are WAY too normal for me!

oh oh oh... that last post just made me think of something we always brings...
HEADLAMPS!
Great for sunset hikes, what with the short dusk at that latitude. I originally was going to post that the weirdest thing I bring is my husband, but I don't literally "pack" him, so I didn't think he would qualify.

We never leave home without a fan. Not to move the air around but for the noise. Started sleeping with it in college to shut out the noise and can't do without it. Noise machines just aren't the same. Weird, I know!

The strangest thing we've ever had to bring down was a ceramic toilet tank cover because one of our guests accidentally broke ours. It fit in carry-on just fine!

How does someone accidentially break a tank cover?
I think you win the prize!

Hehe...I can only imagine how that would happen...
