This was not easy. I thought about it a lot, and I'm a little surprised by my own choice.
Pat Metheny "Last Train Home" from "Still Life (Talking)".
Download it, listen to it (a few times) with your eyes closed. Imagine being at your favorite beach. If it's working, your heart should go pitty-pat and you should be ready to run up and down the beach waving your arms with joy and think good thoughts about people you don't like. Amazing song, amazing artist.
Try it. If you really hate it, I'll try to make it up to you.

Ruth,
That is a great song, and although I saw it on the playlist on your web site I never thought of it in an island context (until now) - but it makes perfect sense.
I WILL have it in some form on my initial St. John visit yhis fall!

R, a good friend of mine has always made me promise that that song will be played at his funeral. Now I can listen to it in a whole different light!

I hope I see you on the beach. Everyone else will be thinking "What A Weirdo!" I'll be thinking, "Ahh, Last Train Home."

Hey Ruth! Another great Pat Metheny song is "Chris" from The Falcon & The Snowman. I love that song.

Oh, and I also love "Confians" by Weather Report. Obscure, but really pretty and good island music.

Pat Metheny...that makes me grin...brings back memories of bong hits in high school.
