Here is the last part of my "story":

THE SITTING ROOM

Now hubby has finished his work with putting up a few bookshelves. This meant that he also could finish all the music and TV instalments. I can tell you that all that about where and how to place the music centre and the TV has cost much time. Hubby wants it to be perfect and with none cables to see. So there are a lot of cables in the wall and just to find out which cable to which place isn’t so easy. But the music sounds terrific – we have used The Eagles to listen to - simply the best, never got tired of Hotel California.

The entrance:

In the sitting room we have more furniture from the old house. The plank bed to the left, when you go into the room is a part of the plank bed in the old house, the coffee table is my parents old dining table, where hubby has put new table legs on, the basket chairs are about 35 years old, the two of them we had at home, and the other two were in the old house.

The bureau is very old. It comes from hubby’s great-parents home. It was very scratched, when we got it, but a paint dealer succeeded in mixing different paint to the right colour, so we could cover the scratches.

An old stump of tree we found many years ago.

We have had discussions about the furnishing of the sitting room, because our son thinks, it looks wrong to put these old furniture into our new house, and some of our friends agreed with him. But we like the history about the furniture, and also think it gives the room some “soul”.So for the time being we will keep them there.

The standard lamp is from the old house too, but the chairs are new. We wanted some comfortable chairs to sit in looking at TV, and they are really good- you can put the chair back down – and very easy fall asleep!

Perhaps you have noticed that I’m crazy with stones? We have stones everywhere.
For example:

I think it’s funny with this little stone, which is stuck in the bigger stone

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/G4 ... site"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_4aSBK_jB-gs/TOukk ... 200083.JPG" height="600" width="800"></a>

And you can also use a stone as a candlestick

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/sL ... site"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_4aSBK_jB-gs/TOukl ... 200084.JPG" height="600" width="800"></a>

or as a decoration on the terrace

For many years I have collected stones with a hole in from different places in the world we have visited – didn’t find any on STJ! We had them outside in the old house, but for some years ago they were stolen (I really cannot understand, which people can enjoy stolen stones). So I had to start again and have now decided to have the collection inside hanging on the wall.

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vC ... site"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_4aSBK_jB-gs/TOukn ... 200086.JPG" height="600" width="800"></a>

We still miss a few decorations on the walls and some other little things to be done, but we feel that the house is finished and in function now, and we are very satisfied with the result. There are a few things, we would have changed, if we should build the house now, but nothing important. But I have to say that the building process has filled a big part of our lives for about two years, and I hope that we in the future can go on vacation again and see other parts of the world.

But until then we can enjoy the view from the house, which has been much better because many big trees in front of us have been cut down.

Thank you so much for sharing so completely this process of building and furnishing your new vacation home. I have truly enjoyed learning of some differences as well as similarities in our lifestyles.

I vote to keep the older furniture pieces! If ever I see a STJ rock with a hole I'll send it over; your collection of various stones adds interest and your personality. I would love to hear you go down that stone chain and tell the story of time and place for each one.

I can almost hear "Hotel California" playing there! "Perfecting" husbands (men) are very, very desired (my opinion).

There are sure to be many joyful celebrations in this house, as well and many peaceful moments... may you and your family be blessed with much happiness there.

And that adorable little princess is going to need a closet all her own....

lprof, I’m glad if you enjoyed to read the long story about our new vacation home.
But I’m sorry to disappoint you about me remembering time and place for every stone.
When I began to collect, I was sure that I would be able to do it, and I didn’t mark the stones in any way. This I have regretted . As you know I’m a grandma, and my memory isn’t the same now, as it was :( .

Have you ever seen a small stone with a hole in on STJ? I can tell that during all the years I have only found 2 on the beach in Spain. It’s not so easy everywhere.
