#2 is chiillaxing and asked me to fill in some blanks. Apparently we drove away from the Gibney gate without a bag. I know. Nearly impossible to conceive. It's not even funny anymore. I've got to step up and take the blame for this one because I carried that bag up the path and put it on the ground next to, I thought, the cooler and other bag with towels. In reality, I was so anxious about checking my messages at work that the bag slipped from my mind. Not good.
Further, we never, ever have two, let alone one wallet with us at the beach. Ever. We know better. But, the weather was spotty so we figured we'd go to Mongoose if it rained. We gave the beach a shot and should have locked the wallets in glove box. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I own it.
Anyway, it was gone and the guys working on the road right there said they were on lunch break and didn't see anything. We stopped at the police station to report it then went back to Gallows and began calling to cancel the credit cards. At this point I'm guessing that good St. Anthony has put us on the "do not call" list but it's worth a try. My cell rang and it was the Red Hook ferry security guard. Someone turned in the bag with the wallets in tact except for the cash. There wasn't much cash. The Sony Handicam and #2's iphone and #1 's I pod were gone.
Last Spring in New England was particularly rainy and the weeds were out of hand. Enterprising guy that he is #2 opened a weed pulling business. He put flyers out all over our neighborhood and had lots of requests for work. He followed up and showed up on time and earned the money to buy and maintain his Iphone.
We are insured for our personal belongings but we haven't quite given up hope that the other stuff will turn up. Stranger things have happened. We are very lucky to have gotten the wallets back.
The weather. The up side is that cisterns are full to brimming I'm guessing. This morning is looking hopeful. We thought we'd rent a dingy this year but it's a little windy for that. We don't need to be calling for a coast guard rescue to spice things up thank you very much.
We walked to the new Mexican place, Cactus, where Stone Terrace used to be for dinner last night. We sat inside because there was a hurricane outside and we totally forgot that it was Sunday and the Beach Bar gathering was supposed to be happening. I'm so sorry to have missed the brave souls who ventured out in the storm.
So that brings us up to date. #2 will jump in and out as the mood strikes. Do a little sun dance for us if you will.
