Just because someone disagrees with a certain point of view doesn't mean they are bitter and cynical.

Nah, not true. If Obama comes out tomorrow and commits to giving General McChrystal the troops he requested weeks ago in Afghanistan (which I suspect he will not), then I will be his loudest cheerleader on that issue.
Obama has lower poll numbers at this point in his presidency than Jimmy Carter had at this point in his administration. And BTW, the "great unifier" (Obama) is presiding over the most polarized public that maybe we have ever seen. But hey, at least most of the people in Denmark love him! I'd probably love him too, if he were the president of another country, and not mine. Seems like a decent enough guy (If you can get past all of the communism stuff).

I don't think this comment was directed at me, but as the only poster who is facing a
50% state income tax hike to support the Olympics I assure you that my disgust over this issue has NOTHING to do with Obama. I just wanted to make that blatantly obvious if it wasn't already. If the Games come to Chicago it will be Daley's Hired-Truck Scandal all over again, but this time in Olympic proportions.
If I thought the Olympics could come to Chicago and the process be free of corruption and give jobs to people, I'd be all for it.

So....someone merely mentioning seeing the First Lady has turned this conversation to nasty political comments. My personal opinion is that it's time for the repeat offenders to have their accounts suspended and deleted if they insist on continuing...I believe it was a "Let's go Rio" comment that started this latest round. It was then continued by the usual suspects. Do you folks really have nothing better to do than bash our duly elected officials. Both sides are guilty and its frankly old and tiring.People need to grow up and act like respectable adults.
Maggy I'm sure it was cool to see the First Lady. I bet it made your day.

If I remember President Obama used the word bitter also.

You're advocating suspension of my account, CID? Are you calling for a boycott?
In the words of Colonel Nathan Jessup..."Am I being charged with a crime here??? Is that what this is???...I'm going back to my base.".
I do understand the difficult position you are in, however. Having to listen to non-stop criticism of a president that you voted for can be very difficult. Especially when said criticism carried into the subsequent administration.
It is tough...Hang in there, it only gets tougher.

I agree Cid, as do plenty others.
The issue... hijacking otherwise positive, upbeat threads to bicker incessantly...I'm headed somewhere else...

Too bad this topic turned into what it did.

I'm leaving politics out of this topic and out of this board! This is the place I go to for good vibes about the islands. Even if this is the off the topic forum...I'll go to CNN or something to talk politics.
I just to want tell Maggy ...very cool and happy that you were able to see the First Lady Mrs. Obama!

Guys and gals the responses here are just not fair to Maggy. I am not blaming specific parties and I don't want to point fingers, but just the general tone of nearly the whole thread (on a quick read) sort of stinks. If someone makes a positive upbeat post about something they thought was cool or positive or whatever, why does it have to devolve into the Chicago Olympics (as an example - it could have been anything and this is not a slight on that issue - positive or negative)? I just don't think that is fair to original poster at all. Can't we just cut each other a break sometimes?
Seriously - just take a minute to think about the other person.
And - most importantly - don't post after drinking

I too ask the Management to stop this behavior. You have the authority to stop this kind of behavior. Please do so. This forum that we all love is supported by our generous advertisers. They continue to support the forum because of the number and quality of participants who come here. If you allow people like this to drive our friends off, the advertisers will soon follow. Should that happen, the best VI forum on the entire internet will soon be gone too. Clearly, quarantining them to the Off Topic forum is still antagonizing the members. It's not working. Please take some affirmative action to save this forum.
This kind of shrill, whining, illogical arguing is offensive. High jacking harmless topics for one's own self-gratification is unacceptable. It is an injustice that cannot be allowed to continue.
I don't want to, but I will start looking for a new site if something is not done soon.

I'm with jimg20 on this one. I've already backed way off this forum and am putting more time into Facebook where I can pick and choose my friends. Anthony is absolutely right about this not being fair to Maggy. She even said in her original post that she did not want it to become political, but once again, another promising "fun" thread is pounded into the ground by the same ol' perps as always.

Oh, yeah, Anthony! There you go making up new rules again. I'm often guilty of the charge of PWI, or is it PUI?... Let me drink about it, oops, I mean stink over it. Oops again. I mean think about it. Really, Officer Moderator, I only had two drinks....
