I've found the response to Joshie very peculiar from the start. There have been some very strong, even hostile reactions to him. What I found most unusual was the extent to which a particular forum member was discussed, dissected, criticized or praised on the open forum. Even during the eras of rather intense political threads, posters weren't openly talked ABOUT by other members. There were certainly arguments, debates and confrontations BETWEEN members. Insults were traded traded, sometimes in a very nasty way. Then there was the parallel process of the PMs in which certain people were talked ABOUT, but not on the open forum. Even the more provocative and contentious members weren't openly dissected by others in the third person. Some of it may be because he's restrained enough to just let some things hang rather than responding.

I don't really understand what it is about Joshie that has brought on the sort of response that it has. I've mostly enjoyed him from the start. I really appreciate the photos. He has toned down his act some and actually appears to have successfully rehabilitated his image and redeemed himself. It's an interesting feat. Or has he just been socialized? I know nothing about him and it doesn't surprise me that he divulges so little about himself. Other island residents have chosen the same tact to try to maintain some degree of anonymity. It doesn't seem strange or suspicious to me that someone provides only minimal info about themselves. If anything, I'm sometimes surprised by the extent and depth of very personal information that some posters disclose. Of course, when we meet some folks, they tell us everything about themselves in the first four minutes, while others are much more circumspect and reveal themselves slowly. Joshie isn't the mystery for me. The mystery for me is the forum's reactions to him.

Now Pia, are you trying to pick a fight with me....

I guess I did have that photo of me in my hubby's tevas. I am an imposter too! I am ashamed.

I think we all have cabin fever and are just feeling pent up and hostile. A tad touchy maybe. IS IT SPRING YET! Possible 70s here in VA this weekend after 6 inches of snow on Sunday/Monday. Crazy.

I guess I'm in the "who cares" crew. It's the Internet, not my living room. People can do whatever they want, and I'm glad this time it's generally entertaining.

Joshie is like cookies: Nice to have around, if you're in the mood for a cookie. Otherwise, no one can make you eat a cookie.

Edited to say: And he's super-quick on the YouTube! Have to appreciate that.

Let the game begin:

He grew up in the Northeast.

His parents are attractive people. Physically for sure, but the kind of people everyone wants to know. Popular. Came from meager means. They both worked hard, good ethics and were very successful financially. Dad started with nothing, very smart, and became very successful. Kind of guy who would do well regardlessof the vocation. Business was his forte. Mom has a degree but decided it would be better to concentrate on her children; Joshie and his older sibling, probably a sister, who attends grad school currently. Most likely Ivy League.

Joshie was a standout athlete, probably wrestling or football, maybe tennis. Academically top of his class.

He begged his Dad to understand his desire to take a year or two off before college. Promises he will go, just not right now. Mom was very supportive, and Dad, of course, relented.

The family has traveled the Caribbean on various vacations. Joshie when young, new he would return to SJ… some day.

Most likely works on island, waiter/bartender, not two jobs like most, just one. Bananna Deck I think. Doesn’t need to, but it was part of the deal.

He studied the VIOL forum for a couple weeks, before…..jumping in. Loves the anonymity.

Likes to play the field, but tries to stay away from tourist chicks. Hasn’t always succeeded, but tries.

Had his heart broken in High School, longtime sweetheart.

Very talented young man. Kinda kid every mother sighs after.

His parents worry but know everything will work out, cause, they “know” Joshie.

p.s. Joshie isn’t the name he goes by, on island. Probably something Nana called him when young.

How many do I have right ?? Eh Josh?

:? :?
No way, dude! How could you possibly know so much about me? It's like you been reading my diary. Or watching that webcam I got over my bed.

It's all true. Every single thing you said is true.

Only... I'm surprised you didn't mention how much I love snow sports.

My favorite thing in the world was to go sledding down those big old snow covered hills of New England.

Everyday, on my way home from wrestling pactice, you could see me trudging through the snow, pulling along behind me my little sled, my beloved Rosebud.

Ah, yes... R - o - s - e - b - u - d.

She still hangs in Father's barn.

I keep her picture in my wallet.

Well, gotta get back to work.

Big crowd here today at the Banana Deck and, as the bossman says, "Joshua, these tables aren't going to bus themselves."

Peace.

Cool. I was gonna mention the sled but didn't want to hit a sore spot. I know how much you miss it on SJ.

Peace - back atcha.

They did. the floor is done and they're back at home. We saw them 2 weeks ago for the first time since they left our house in October.

You should read my blog. It's a blog about me and things that I do. Mostly, it's about me and me and me.

And my pregnant wife.
