Someone recently recommended the Sookie Stackhouse books-- if you get HBO and watch True Blood you'll know that the show is based on these books.

It will be interesting to see how these books are!

I am looking for some fun beachy stuff though!

whenever i mentioned Tim Dorsey's great series (orange crush, etc, etc), someone recc's to me Carl Hiaasen books. they both write about florida and the crazy characters and locales in florida.

so i picked up nature girl and... it's kinda boring. is this not one of the better Carl Hiaasen?

Sherban - each chapter covers a particular aspect of the shipping industry.

One chapter explained how poor countries with no shoreline made a business registering ships and how Exxon might lease a tanker that is owned by a Greek company but registered in Liberia.

Another chapter about rogue waves. Let me just say I didn't need another irrational fear in my life.

The parts on pirates were interesting. How they steal ships, repaint them, and put the ship right back into service.

There are insurance companies out there tracking Ship X saying "hey, that ship was stolen from our customer" but there isn't any governing body out there to seize the ship.

Oh, I should warn about the ferry chapter. The author tells the story about an Estonian ferry that sinks in the middle of the night because someone forgot to shut a door. I had to skip over parts of it, too sad.

Gromit, I am on the 5th one of the series. I LOVE them. They are very much like the series True Blood but better. You get a highly recommended from me

I think Flip FLop is going to kill me for making her read the Twilight series. I think she hates it but now she's in the middle and has to finish!

Yeah-- I heard that the sookie stackhouse books are lot less sexual than the HBO series... but I'm willing to read them anyway

They are pretty sexual and there are a lot more supernatural creatures in these books then in the first season of the series. I can't wait for the next season to begin to see how they continue to adapt them.

I have the Twilight boxed set and they're next for me to read once I finish these. I was up until 1 a.m. last night finishing a Sookie book.

Let me know what you think if you decide to go for it.

They just got to my office a few minutes ago!

Some reviewer on the amazon site though said that they weren't as "Adult" as the TV series. So I guess they have a different standrard than the rest of us

Twilight starts out a bit slow and I think there's a lot of discrepancy in the vampire lore (eg sunlight doesn't affect Twilight's Vampires the same as True Bloods vampires etc). But I really enjoyed the Twilight series. You should too... but keep in mind that Twilight is not graphic at all it's very ild by comparison (given what you said) but enjoy the innocence of it all!!

i am about to start reading 'loving frank' for my book club--I am not really sure that i will like this book, but I will certainly post back if you guys are interested in my decidedly unliterary opinion!

It was not a disaster. I found the depiction of legalized prostitution disturbing for many reasons--not the least because I thought they should charge more! I liked the characters of Charlie and Luz. It certainly was not your typical touristy beach novel.

I enjoyed Hiaasen's Sick Puppy.

A crazy roller coaster ride - definitely not boring.

I'm reading Skinny Dip now but only 50 pages in...so far I am enjoying it.

ATTENTION DOG LOVERS: I just finished a real fun quick read called “Dog On It” by Spencer Quinn. It is narrated in the voice of a dog named Chet who is owned by a down on his luck private investigator who is looking into the disappearance of a teenage girl. Its a decent detective story and you’ll chuckle at Chet’s dogs-eye view of the world, his intense loyalty to his owner, how he helps work the case, how he gets distracted by stuff we dont understand, and why dogs love life and us.

I'll let you know what I think of Twilight. I may not get to them until after Memorial Day since I won't bring them to St. John for my May trip - too heavy!
