Guess the country is doomed if he wins or loses. Better move to Canada.

[quote="VickiHHush it, Jim. You're going to blow my cover. I prefer to play dumb. People expect so much less of me that way.

Well VickyH, that is one more example of how you and I differ. I really am dumb. I'm ususally playing smart.
You did hit on one of the fundamental factors that is missing from political discourse here on the Forum, in campaign stops (DC's confrontation) and all the way to the halls of Congress. There generally is no respect for an opposing point of view. I liked the way Ronald Reagan dealt with that. One year he arrived at Tip O'Neil's office for the State of the Union Address. It was customary for the president to wait there for the appointed time of the address. He was met by Tip O'Neil's aide Chris Mathews who greeted him and asked how he felt about being in the den of the enemy. Reagan replied with his typical grin saying that it was after 6 pm and we're all fiends after hours. We need to be able to put these differences aside "after hours" and especially after November 4th. We need to be able to pull together, like we did after 9/11, and become one nation.
Did you know that when this country was founded the world referred to us as a collection of states (the United States are going to...)? After the Civil War the reference became singular (the United States is going to...). We are one hetergeneous people that are a part of one nation. Whoever is elected has to become the president of OUR United States.
PS Sox, your appology struck me as sincere and genuine. Thank you for being big at a time that it must have been difficult to do so.

Nic in KC wrote:On a similar, but slightly different note...does anyone have any concerns about the days after the election? Now, before you laugh, I'm talking about immediately after when one candidate has been elected. I won't be surprised if we don't know for days actually, but once a decision is made, I have concerns about emotional responses. Emotions have run high during this whole process and I'm actually concerned with how the more radical people may behave on either side of this equation. It's just different statements I've heard in many different settings.
Just wondering if these thoughts have crossed anyone else's minds.
I saw Chris Rock speaking about this in a fun way. He laughed and said that if Obama doesn't get elected watch out the next day. "If you have anything to do that involves a black person that day -- forget about it. It's not going to happen. If you are going to the airport that day -- no one will be there to take your bags."

Thanks for the tape on page 10 of this thread, Soxfan. Proof in Obama's own words that redistribution of wealth is his goal.

Hilary didn't have the balls to give Bill the heeve hoe when he was caught doin Monica. She though Bill was going to be able to give her a shot at the soon open whitehouse job. Guess that didn't work out for her either.
He didn't have relations with that woman, it was
the cigar
IMO it takes a stronger woman NOT to give up and try to work things out...all depending.
Very good CA Girl!

Where's Jorge? He started this. He's probably on STJ enjoying a cocktail and basking in the sun! He probably already voted before he left the mainland. Am I right, Jorge?

Jim - thanks for the nice words. As you all have seen, it is not easy for me to say I was wrong. But in that instance, I was. And I needed to say so. I think one of the most important things I can teach my children is the importance of coming clean when you have screwed up. I screwed up.
The last thing I will say about this abortion thing:
It was Barack Obama who said, "If one of my daughter's makes a mistake and gets pregnant, I don't want her PUNISHED with a baby.".
I'm looking at my three week old baby girl Ella right now sleeping on my wife's shoulder...I just took a bath with my 3 year old boy Jack a little while ago.
Kids are a gift - never a "punishment".

"Proof in Obama's own words that redistribution of wealth is his goal."
Nothing personal to anyone here, but I don't think repeating the
redistribution of wealth chant as a very smart strategy on the part of the Republicans right now. I guess I just don't see the political downside when the majority of Americans blame consolidation of power and concentration of wealth for having created the current economic fiasco in the first place. I know if I were laid off, couldn't pay my bills, the bank came and took my home, and I had to go live with Pipanale

, the thought of a little wealth redistribution would sound pretty nice. Especially since my government just
redistributed the wealth to the tune of $700,000,000,000 to the very Wall Street financiers who couldn't manage it to begin with. I really don't see how McCain can justify labeling Obama a socialist, when he voted for one of the largest government bailouts in history.

SJFromNJ - to your point earlier about investors getting out before the Redistributionist takes office...
The owner of the Miami Dolphins is looking to sell 45% of his team. He's now in "urgent mode" because he knows the cap gains tax will increase substantially under Obama.
He said he'd rather give it to charity than to him.

pjayer-
And Obama did not vote for this?
Sorry, I'm afraid he did.
And he wants to give another 845 billion (.7% of the GNP) over the next 13 years to the UN over and above the foreign aid we already give. The Global Poverty Act-S2433. The UN is salivating over this, and they would have the option to increase the levy if they see fit. This is one of the few bills that Obama can claim.
