Hey Pickle-- I've seen several (or the same one repeatedly) at Salt Pond.

Also, if you're into baby sharks and baby anything -- head to Princess Bay for some Mangrove snorkeling. Mangroves are the "nurseries" of the island.

I think someone said they saw tons of baby reef sharks at Reef bay.

May I ask where you've seen them (or him/her if it's the same one) in Salt Pond? I usually snorkel on the left side but have never seen one.

I may give it a try at Princess Bay again. The last time I snorkeled there, the tide was coming in and I had to constantly distance my head from the roots of mangroves to avoid getting possibly tangled with.

By the way, have a fabulous trip to St. John, Gromit!

Nurse shark, shmurse shmark! The problem that I would have is...I would see said sharky...my brain would freeze with fear...before I could look said sharky up on my fish-flippy-wrist thingy! I would freak. Plain - and - Simple.

Hey Pickle-- I have seen the shark at Salt pond onthe right -- facing out to sea. Scared the beejeezus out of me. That being said, if I see it again I will probably be able to hang out and watch.

Hey NancyB, Hi back at ya. I told you, you have ruined us because now we want a boat day instead of the ferry. Sandy happened to ask if anyone was interested and we jumped at the chance. I know we will have a great time because I am convinced our husbands were separated at birth. They can be naughty . We are looking forward to our day on the water tomorrow.

We are off to STT shortly to have dinner with the Caoptainjays and scubagirl and whoever else is there .

Sandy, see you guys tomorrow at the park dock before 8:30am. I'm bringing the rum .

I've only seen nurse sharks twice. Pnce at Salt Pond--that shark was motoring out to the ocean so fast I could not even get a picture. At Kiddle Bay, we hung out with a nurse for quite a while. It alternated between resting on the bottom and swimming around. It did not seem to mind that we were hovering near it.

At Turtle Bay, I spotted two full grown blacktip sharks. I turned around and one of them was not too far behind me, which was a little freaky! But, they swam away quickly. This is the only picture I was able to get of them—they swim really fast! I wish I had gotten a better one that shows their faces.

Brenda -- tell Sandy to tell you about meeting me for the first time at the airport. Turns out she and I had a lot in common including our Tiffany rings!!

We tend to see a nurse shark in the evenings at the point between Maho and Little Maho the past few years.

We have also seen nurse sharks twice at both Waterlemon and Gibney.

One year at Cinnamon (by the cay) we saw something that was not a nurse shark but that was in 2005 and I can only remember that it swam by then came back to check us out before swimming off. THAT one freaked me out where the nurse sharks don't, and I actually enjoy watching them.

This past trip, my sweet Amy and my buddy Jeff saw a 6 ft. tarpon on Maho Point between Francis & Little Maho, that scared the hell out of them. It wasn't threatening them by any means, but they were intimadated by its' size.
I was there, too, but somehow didn't see it. I'd a loved to!
Nurse sharks wouldn't send me into a panic, I don't think.
One year I got such a :?:th degree sunburn on my bald head, that I couldn't snorkel for a day, or two. Everyone else in our party was out snorkeling in Maho; just cruzan around, and it was excrutiating to put anything on my head,(goggles, mask, hair... ) as it was blistered. (We shared @ 5 too many "Volcanos" at Duffy's,when it was there...)-So out they snorkeled, and I held down the 'beach-site',...scalp=on fire.
I walked down into the waters' edge, and watched them have fun. A baby nurse shark swam by, mucho-casually-o, about 4 inches past my toes, loving Maho.
She swam all the way to the east end, and back. It was cool waiting for her!
Maybe I'll see her again!

I forgot about the baby sharks. I saw one at Caneel's main beach last year--we have a picture of it somewhere, and at Reef Bay, John and I found a whole pod of baby blacktips. The water was so shallow that their fins were sticking out of the water--I think there were about 15 of them. John of course went marching right out to them to check them out! Not me!

You guys are so lucky to get shark pix! I "took a pic" of a black tip on Sunday who blended in all-too-well with the oceanic background. His disguise was perfect. Can't find him in the pic.

Then today I nearly got my mask knocked off by a rudely-awakened nurse (wasn't me who disturbed her!). She was gone in a nanosecond leaving only bubbles. This sighting was at Deavers, near Chocolate Hole.
