Cowgirl, The white ones are more dense. If you put too much pressure on the shot the pumpkin explodes and you get a zero for the shot. The white ones often will withstand more pressure and have a better spin. If it explodes its said that you "made pie".
Chet, Second Amendment is a great group of folks, but they do have over $250,000 dollars in that gun and they have engineers from some Michigan college, either MSU or UM.It takes the better part of a day to assemble that thing with a crane service. They are also sponsored by Kaiser Compressors.
One of our cannons has had two bad years in a row. Two years ago two of the pumpkins left the cannon and looked great... until they suddenly decided to take a near 90 degree turn! The other shot was pie. The other gun, Chunkin Up has had their best distances yet the past couple of years and with some minor modifications they are expecting even better this year.
Rick, This is "Yankee Clipper", the world's largest trebuchet and champion of that class. I don't remember the exact distances but it flings pumpkins around 3 thousand feet. That thing is huge!
