I’ve seen them grazing on the sea grass beds at all times of the day at Maho...we also usually see them at Waterlemon.

We spend a lot of time at Maho and have NEVER seen a turtle there - which side - more info please!
We always, always see lots of rays there.
We have seen turtles at Trunk, Francis and Secret Harbour on St Thomas.

Leinster Bay, right off the beach - though I often see turtles in Salt Pond and Francis also. Last time I was at Leinster, I found 3 turtles at the same time around me, and they gave me a hard time deciding which one to follow. Eventually, I went with this one while my husband swam with another.

Last year we spent a great day at Maho. We had one non-snorkeler and she did the turtle spotting'. We had a great day! Also seen them at Francis and Leinster and Salt Pond.

We've tried many different places on St. John to snorkel. Loved the usuals like Waterlemon and Francis Bay but one year we decided to go to Brown Bay after reading about it in one of the books on St. John that we had purchased. It was quite a hike (to say the least) to get there but we had the beach to ourselves and the snorkeling was great.

All others: Thanks for sharing your turtle spotting
locations. This next trip we will surly
find at least one.

We have seen the most turtles at Maho and Francis both in the morning and the evening. Just look around the grass in the middle at both. We have seen them on the right at Francis too.
One evening at Maho, we were standing in the water just watching all of the turtle heads poking up.

any other thoughts on this one...my kids will call me a liar if we don't see turtles in June!

We always see turtles at Maho, especially in the afternoon between 3-5. We've seen quite a few in the middle of the bay in the sea gress area. We've also seen one on the reef to the right out towards the point. We normally go in April or May. Not sure if the time of year makes a difference in seeing them.

Five years later I still say Scott Beach is the best place for lots of turtles. I can also revise my older thoughts on Maho... I guess we found the right spot because I see them every time now, in the middle of the bay. Francis still has the big guys but they are quite a ways offshore. Try the Leinster drift for a chance to see a hawksbill turtle. I can't remember how old your kids are but if they can handle more advanced snorkelung Blue Cobblestone is another good spot for hawksbill turtles as well as eagle rays.

Going thru my memory bank I' ve seen turtles at just about every place I've snorkeled in St John but for best chance and ease Maho gets my vote.
