My bad.....I made an error which I wish to correct now....it is not pronounced Captain Morgan (that was rumored to be true) it is actually pronounced Absolut.

In 2006 Cruzan Rum was fully integrated into V&S Absolut Spirits, the business division within V&S Group that owns ABSOLUT VODKA, Level Vodka, FRÏS Vodka and Plymouth Gin.

And V&S is Swedish And still I can't find Cruzan Coconut here (just Mango).

Fortune Brands (here in Illinois) has recently completed its deal to buy Cruzan Rum from Pernod Ricard (the Absolut folks). Hubs and I are considering heading on up to the corporate headquarters in Deerfield to petition for the return of Estate Diamond (the discontinued 5 year dark).

I didn't hear that Cruzan (however you pronounce it) was up for sale again. Here's hoping they bring back the Estate Diamond 5 year, I just discovered it here this summer, my local liquor store still has like five bottles on the shelf and I've been thinking about buying them out since I probably won't find any in the islands next month.

Hey, Margy Z, my hubby works in that Beam office in Deerfield! Make sure to say hey when you guys go up there to petition! We were really excited when they acquired Cruzan. As for my 2cents about the pronunciation...We had always said "Cruisin", too. But hubby now says it's Cru-shan. I still like the sound of "Cruisin" better. But, hey, as long as they keep givin' us our $200/year liquor allowance, we'll call it whatever they want! Cheers!

The Beam people bought it? That means my man is never going to distribute it. He rides my case for drinking it, because he can't make any money off it.

Ahhh, CG...a woman after my own heart! Actually, I prefer, 1st- single malt scotch, then vodka, then rum (always in the Islands, of course). Mainstay being red wine (I love Napa/Sanoma valleys) then beer.

Lulu, being from Tennessee, I am not surprised (about the whisky). They make a mighty fine whiskey!

I like a good cab also, but have you tried a really nice red Zin? Lots of spice and fruit, but a little drier than a cab. I think you'd like it. Try a bottle of Steele Zinfandel - Pacini vinyard -(California). You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hey, mcdomzal, we're just south of you in Wheaton! Hubs just loves that Estate Diamond. I am going to try to get a STX pal to shop for some so he will have it to bring home. I have asked for suggestions on a sub and he tried a few but he says nothing comes close - it's that caramel tone that he says he can't find in the others. I wish they would consider bringing it back.

Jack D is my favorite (of course), with Crown Royal running a super-close second. If anyone hasn't been here to Tennessee and gone on the Jack Daniel's tour, you need to. It's easy to see why it's the best whiskey in the world.

I haven't tried a red zin, but I've been thinking about it. I'll have to do that. My current wine of the moment (aside from Killer Juice cab in a box, which is excellent for box wine and perfect for the single girl who doesn't always want to be plastered) is spanish rosado -- it's pink, but tastes like a great red. Very fun and delicious.

Did he try the Appleton? It didn't work for him?

Lulu - thanks - yes, he did try the Appletons and two recommended varieties of the Mount Gay. It's that caramel that he says he doesn't detect in the other brands so far. The Cruzan single barrel he finds too oak-y; the 2 year he says is "too light" - not in color but in taste. I'm no help because I prefer Myers for a dark rum - lol . I'm going to try to get 6-12 bottles stashed on STX so we can bring it back and put off this "crisis of rum" for as long as we can.

Can you have liquor shipped to Illinois (we can't here in Tennessee; I never know about other states)? If you can maybe some online liquor store still has it?
