I'm so sorry Jorge, how is your kitty doing now?

I've had a couple of scares with my cats over last few weeks so I know exactly how you're feeling.

Doh, we were posting at the same time.

How is it that only Junior got sick? What were his symptoms?

The only thing I hate about going to STJ is leaving my babies at home.

How old was Harley?

Jorge, how interesting about the mold!! I'm so glad Junior's ok! I love that cat!! The next time you go out of town, why don't you hire a professional pet sitter so you don't run into this kind of problem again! Not everyone cares about your animals the way you do, and I think a pro pet sitter would be a good way to go!

Jorge, that's one big cat. I thought my Buca was big at 18 lbs.

I came home from Cape Cod and Buca had a huge lump on the right side of his face. Right away, I thought tumor, not good news.

It's actually an abcess, which is being treated. He's doing fine, but I always worry when I go away.

He's my cat/dog. He will fetch, give us his paw, do a High 5, sit up, lay down...I swear he's a dog.

I'm glad your cat is doing well..continued good health.

Jorge-
I am so glad your cat is OK.

We tried everything with our yorkie Phoebe after we returned from STJ, but she died of kidney failure the end of July. The day she died my husband started having heart problems-will have a heart catherization next week.

Grief can bring health problems to the surface, so take care of yourself also.

Teresa-
I tried to send you a pm asking about your kitty, but I guess I messed it up and it didn't go through. I'm glad he's out of danger.

Jorge, I thought my tabby Tigger was gorgeous until I saw that picture of Junior. What a precious cat! I'm glad he's doing better.

I am really worried about leaving my Portia alone for week. A friend from work checked on her when I was on a business trip last month, so I might ask him to watch her again.

Jorge I'm happy for you that your cat is better now. I'm a sucker for sickly stray cats. I had one poking around my door one day and took her in, fed her, etc. There were a ton of strays around my home, so I decided to do what I could to help. I took the cat to the vet to get her fixed, and the vet called me about an hour after I dropped her off. He said "I need you to come in". Crap! I thought. I rushed to the vet. SHE was a HE. And HE had already been fixed! The vet didn't even realize this until he had made the incision to fix "her"!

The second one I took in, was indeed a little girl. She was SOOOOO skinny and was getting beat up on by the other cats multiplying by the dozen. I think her foot had been ran over by a car as well. Behind both of her ears were a mess, from fighting the others. She's all fixed up now!

They are both living the life of Riley at the lake. They share a home right on the water with 1 other cat, a dog, and a raccoon. The person taking care of them now catches fish in a bucket and lets them dig them out!

Someone in our condo complex left Portia when they moved. She came in my house one day and hasn't left yet. I will try to take a picture of her.

She's adorable, sweet and well-behaved, but she eats like nobody's business. Her dish always seems to be empty!

Thanks for the warning Margo. I was going to open it but decided not to. If it's abuse I don't know why anybody would film it. I have 8 of them and if you want to take in air again don't mess with my cats.
Yes, thanks also CA girl. I totally agree with Jorge.
Junior is a handsome guy Jorge and about the same size as some of our bobcats in the area! If there is such a thing as reincarnation...well I want to come back as one of my cats! Nothing but the BEST for my "babies".

This may seem extreme and at risk of sounding "crazy" but...if I was a cop on Animal Cops I would be the one always shouting, "quit resisting", while I was breaking their arm or maybe even sanding their face with the pavement :o You know like they do on Cops?!!

My last visit to STJ this June I encountered an idiot at Hawksnest that was abusing his pitbull and I was soooo pissed off and ready to call the cops. It was 2 guys with the dog and they were visibly inebriated. I confronted him and asked if he thought the dog was enjoying what he was doing and he told me "he has no choice but to take it"!! I was so upset and shaking. I'm afraid I will always remember that if I go to Hawksnest again :x The dog got away from him for about 5 minutes but ran around acting very confused, I really wished that he ran away. The guy sensed I was not happy with the situation and finally got the dog back and put him in the vehicle. Ever since then I wondered if there were dog fights on STJ cuz he had a puncture wound or maybe a bullet wound. VERY disturbing!!!

Anyway, enough of this bad memory.

Kathy

Jorge, I'm so glad that Junior is ok. A few years ago we nearly lost one of ours because he reacted to his vaccinations...he survived because the emergency vet dunked him in cold water and put him on IV fluids for several days.

We had another cat scare last night...my oldest vomited up blood and it scared the crap out of me. My husband had taken him outside to eat some grass and the vet thinks that it irritated the lining of his stomach and caused the bleeding.

Kathy - When we were on STJ in June I went to the Animal Care Center to give a donation and they told me that pretty much the only dogs they get are pitbulls.
