I will never forget when he wore the full body suit for a little NBAC meet to see if he wanted to wear it at his first Olympics. We all thought it was wierd..would have liked some stock in those suits!
I think my daughter would faint straight away if she got anywhere near Phelps! Have any pics to share?

I always like to watch the Olympics, but the timing is killing me. The good stuff is not on until the broadcast goes live at 10 PM. Not yet, anyway. And, of course, I have to wait until 10:30 to start watching because I have to tape it and FF through all of the commericals.

I will also say that I find Bob Costas' commentary to be extremely annoying. Not that I don't always find him annoying, but some of his "quips" have been really disrespectful, in my opinion.

I liked a lot of the opening ceremony. The drumming sequence was impressive, as well as the synchonized number with the people in the silver boxes.

I'm looking forward to the start of track and field (and the end of beach volleyball, snore).

Liamsaunt: The timing is killing us as well. I made it through Michael Phelps first swim last night but the exhaustion from staying up the last two nights got to me and I went to sleep before the second event. Hubbo was alreay sound asleep with the remote in his hand. I am still trying to get over the whole Michael Phelps eats 10,000 calories a day thing. That's a lot of food. I am jealous.

Also agree on Bob Costas. He is pretty annoying but I keep staring at him because I am intrigued by his choice of hair color. I think I would have gone lighter or added some highlights. But that is just my inner hairdresser talking.

Its not just Bob. Some of the commentators are just dumb. Like one of the two covering beach vball. I kid you not he said, referring to arguably the best men's volleyball player in the world, "He's really athletic!" SERIOUSLY. That's the best you can do. Send me there I am sure I could come up with something better.

And ... it may just be me ... but men's synchronized diving? So so so so strange. There are other words but they may offend, so I will hold back.

I want to see the funny stuff like woemans power lifting. Remember back in the 70's when the Russian ladies used to have beards and mustaches?
I just had to ring in on this one! I am the same way, vollyball - ho hum. I did however give my undivided attention to the ping-pong event this morning (okay table-tennis).

I read somewhere (and I think I saw it on Sports Center also), that the head of the rock, paper, scissors international league has pleaded with the Olympic Committee to make it an event! Those competitors are winning like $50,000 or something in their tournaments! What's next - hot dog eating competition?!

This reminds of National Lampoons Vegas Vacation where they go to the "off the strip" casino and gamble their money away at games like "which hand is it in" & "guess what number I'm thinking of"!

Rock, paper, scissors with Bob Costa commentating, That would get more publicity than Phelps! You just know it would!

PJ - sorry no pics. Actually never thought of that back then... My youngest did have Beth Botsford sign a big Atlanta Olympic beach towel a few weeks before Beth won the gold medal. Beth was very sweet & that towel was never used as a towel once she won the gold! The NBAC kids have always been very nice and aproachable to all the "little kids". Not only great training in the water but outside also. I think you can see that with Michael.

Why do they show the divers taking a shower? The divers really have to be careful with their hands.

Divers go in the showers or in some pools a little warm down pool to keep warm & loose. The water in shower/little pool is warmer tahn the actual pool. Pool water is kept cooler for the swimmers. Can't race in warm water.

I was wondering why the mens beach volleyball teams can play perfectly well in clothing, but the womens teams seems to be "coverage/clothing optional". One of those things that make you go...hmmmm???? :?

cass, I always thought that the skimpy clothes=one of the main points of beach volleyball.

OK, I stayed up until 1 AM last night watching the gymnastics--all the way until they were going to do their floor routine, and then I caved and went to bed. I am such a wuss.

If you remote back and forth from women's weightlifting to women's beach volleyball you would realize it ain't such a bad deal.
