Thanks for all of your help! I got our airline tickets yesterday - Just over $350 each rt from Chicago. We live 2 hours from Chicago, but it's almost $800 each to go out of Madison! I would love to go for longer, but I'm horribly attached to our German Shepherd. He will be in doggy daycare (a pretty plush one, so it's not that bad), but leaving him literally kills me... well, not literally.

We left him for a week last summer to go to Bermuda and I was miserable; except when I was on the beach, but other times, definitely miserable. So, leaving him for 5 nights is a huge step for me. It might get better when he gets older, he's only 2. But, later on he'll calm down and maybe friends could watch him.

Can you imagine being tied down because you miss your dog? It's ridiculous! I'm hoping I'll just grow out of it!

Good Luck, great choice. I stayed at Caneel once for 4days/3 nights for just a get away and it was very relaxing. We were beach front and loved the rooms and the sound of the waves lapping onto the shore(pre-AC).
I did rent a Jeep for one day through Caneel and drove around to Coral bay for the day( Salt Pond /Shipwreck landing). We were happy to just chill(7 beaches) and eat lunch at the bar but took taxis to town at night because in my opinion most of the restaurants are better and cost less. Also at Caneel if your flight is late they will hold your luggage while you go to the beach and have a shower cabana where they provide soap, shampoo and towels.
