What a great trip (and trip report)! I'm glad everything went so well for your family and that the ear infection got cleared up (especially before your flights home.) It's hard when a kid gets sick on vacation. The walkie-talkies were a great idea.
PAGirl, Flip, et al: My kids love to travel too, and especially love islands and beaches. (Hmmm... I went to Mexico when pregnant with our daughter, and to the Outer Banks when pregnant with our son. Maybe that's why?)
At some point our son became convinced that we all must go to Fiji, and as soon as possible. He mentions at least once a week. It cracks me up because he surely caught my travel bug, but where he got the Fiji notion I don't know.

Great report! The villa looks really nice and I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind. Their website says there is a 270 degree view, including St Thomas. Can you see the twinkling lights of STT at night? Are there comfortable chairs outside to spend an evening relaxing in? Lastly, do bannaquits and hummingbirds visit, or is the area too arid?
Thanks.

Kplumm, yes, you can see the lights of STT, from the upper deck and while seated in the hot tub.
There were comfortable chairs on both deck levels including two loungers on each. We actually spent a lot of time lounging under the moonlight from a full mood during our stay.
I saw hummingbirds on two occasions. Didn't see bananaquits, but we didn't put anything out to attract them.
you mentioned 3 villas

If you don't mind, what were the other two villas that you were looking at. This one looks beautiful...but looking for something that would work for a three year old.
Thanks.

Great trip report. I love snorkeling Hart Bay, but that is a very occasional opportunity - I'm glad you got the chance.
Isn't traveling with kids delightful! Mine are older now, but my 11 year old still gets intense ear pain when descending in air planes. My 16 year old did the "climb daddy" trick when she saw her first octopus when she was 5, pushing me chest first at the octopus and sea urchins. No injuries or clinic visits yet.
Cheers, RickG

I love that you took your kids. We took our two boys, (youngest was almost 5 at the time and our 7 year old)
back in april. We had a blast. People either came from 2 different schools of thought about bringing the kids: 1) Why? Why would you spend your money for your kids to be there. Too much work.
Just go without them. or 2) Wow! What lucky kids to get to experience St. John!
We couldn't wait to take our kids to St. John. Our 7 y/o was coming for the second time. It is his absolute favorite place on earth and is obsessed about going again (bringing him again in july solo.) Our 5 y/o had the time of his life. He was old enough to grasp this was not the gulf of mexico! He really enjoyed himself and was in delight the whole time. That's worth the cost of the trip right there. He keeps asking me to go back...
Observations were that we should have stayed longer and added a stay at Virgin Gorda. It seemed after day 5, we could have shaken things up a bit.

We're taking our daughter who will be 18 months when we arrive. I too appreciated the info on the medical center... that's one thing that I haven't come accross when lurking the forums thus far and I was wondering if I needed to come prepared for that kinda stuff with a bottle of Amoxycillin with us just in case. Sounds like you had a great trip and we sure are looking forward to ours. THanks for a great trip report!
