We did a daysail on Born to Rhumb. We were a group of 9 and you can pick your own itinerary, which was a great thing for us. We did the Baths, JVD, lunch on Willy-T...plenty of snorkeling in-between. Captain Kevin was very accommodating.

The website is www.borntorhumb.com

The price included beer, soda, water, and he makes up a great batch (or more) of Painkillers. We had a great trip.

I totally respect all the opinions that are for Capt. Phil, but I personally am not a big fan. I had heard so many good things on the forum about him that perhaps my expectations were too high.

My two main gripes were that he was a bit overly anal and that the boat was TIGHT for 6 people and 2 crew. I MEAN TIGHT!

Because of those two factors, I did not feel all that comfortable or relaxed on his boat. I understand in his line of work you deal with many different types of people but come on ... I am paying not a small sum to be kind of treated like I am totally clueless. I am very respectful of others and was annoyed that he seemed to assume we were clueless about the care of a boat.

Maybe he was just having an off day, but I also though he spent a whole lot of time showing us this island where he owns a little piece of land and talking about his plans for that. Sorry, not to be rude, but also not really what I want to experience on my day trip. This is not all about you! :)

We did a powerboat trip on Pirate's Penny on a previous visit and found it a great alternative to the party boat and superior to Capt. Phil.

Capt. Andy (no longer in the islands) was fabulous. Fun, conscientious, made sure we had a good time and were taken care of. I just didn't get the same vibe from Phil. Just ONE girl's opinion. I have no doubt that others who love and highly recommend Phil had a great time. But hey, I love Uncle Joe's BBQ too so take my opinion with a grain of salt ;)

I second Martini Girl's recommendation for Born to Rhumb. Seven of had a fabulous day with Captain Kevin last April and in less then 3 weeks, 9 of us will be doing it again!! I can't wait. The day was definitely the highlight of a great week.

I have sailed with Capt.Phil, Capt.Doug, and Rusty on Tristle (sp?). I have been on Calypso 3 times and loved each and every one of them. But my all time favorite was Capt. Clark on White Wing. He sails out of Coral Bay, so it's a bit of a drive back home if you are staying in the Cruz Bay area. But I have to say it was the best day sail I have ever taken.

If you want to rent a power boat with a captain, then I LOVED Stu Scott!!!

I have always wanted to do Outlaw, but 1200. a day minimum is just too steep for 4 of my people. But if I could I would!
