The way I see it, if you're away from home/work/daily routine, regardless of the time of year, it's still "vacation." And as long as you have a/c in the villa, I think you're covered. Go and have a great time!
You are really insane

I did Disney in March during Spring Break ... never again. Crowded and insane. I can't imagine it that crowded and insane but HOT! Good luck. You'll need a trip to STJ to recover.

Hi ya flipflop,
I don't think that you're crazy or insane for possibly going in August, heck any month is a good month if you ask me. Just stay a bit higher in the "windier", cooler areas. How 'bout up on Bordeaux?
I believe that the USVI's have more of a year round temperature than seasonal.
As opposed to say FLA where I am...actually we'll probably be hotter and lots more humid than STJ in August. I completely agree w/ Augie on that one. As far as hurricanes go we're pretty much notified of a chance 5-7 days prior and I would recommend trip insurance that's all.
Good luck with your planning.

Disney? Insane! Any time.
St. John in August? Yes!
With a pool at the house life is good. You can hit the beach earlier when the spawn get moving at the crack of freakin' dawn and then come back to villa when things get hot.
Being able to walk to Lilly's for more rum is good.
Cheers, RickG

Well, as someone once said (I'm pretty sure), "its a fine line between genius and insanity." Sounds more like genius to me, but I'm biased.
Have been in late July, but not August. It was really hot, but so is the midwest in August, and St. John has much prettier water. Do ask about the A/C in your villa, though.

Flip Flop - Crazy like a fox! First, you are escaping hideously humid Northern Virginia. Second, you are trading the gray east coast ocean for the tuquoise waters of St John. I am in full agreement with your daughter, St John has ruined me for all mid-Atlantic beaches. Get the insurance and sit on a beach in St John and think of us all making the NoVA daily commute!
